Sampras wins Wimbledon again
Pete Sampras
Sampras and Agassi have now met 24 times, with Sampras holding a 14-10 advantage.
Americans Pete Sampras and Lindsay Davenport claimed the singles titles today at the 1999 Wimbledon Tennis Championships. Sampras posted his second three-peat of the decade, having also won the world's premier tennis event from 1993-95. The three-time defending champion and top-ranked player in the world, topped fellow American Andre Agassi, 6-3, 6-4, 7-5. In doing so, Sampras also tied Roy Emerson's male-record 12 Grand Slam titles. Agassi, who won the French Open last month, was trying to become the first man to win the French and Wimbledon titles in the same year since Bjorn Borg in 1980. Agassi, seeded fourth this year at the All-England Club, captured Wimbledon in 1992.
