NBA Game Summary - Portland at Golden State
(Saturday, November 23rd)
Final Score: Portland 113, Golden State 101
Oakland, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - LaMarcus Aldridge had a monster outing with 30 points and 21 rebounds and the Portland Trail Blazers outscored the Golden State Warriors by 15 in the final quarter en route to a 113-101 win at Oracle Arena.
Wesley Matthews scored 23 points, while Damian Lillard netted 20 with nine assists for Portland, which won its 10th consecutive game.
A raucous shoving match broke out with just under four minutes left in the third quarter that saw ejections of Matthews and Mo Williams for Portland and also Gerald Green for Golden State.
"We rode LaMarcus in the second half," Blazers coach Terry Stotts said. "With Wes and Mo out, the one thing the altercation did was buy us some rest time. That was a long break and it allowed LA (Aldridge) to play the rest of the half."
After Stephen Curry made two technical free throws to increase the Golden State lead, 81-71, Portland outscored the Warriors 42-20 in the final 15 plus minutes of the game.
Klay Thompson scored 30 points on 10-of-13 shooting, while Curry returned to the lineup after missing the past two games with a concussion and scored 22 points with 11 assists in the loss.
After the Curry technical free throws and a pair at the line from Thompson, Portland used a 15-3 run that spanned the end of the third and early moments of the fourth to tie the game 86-86.
Curry's floater with 8:45 left gave the Warriors their final lead of the game at 92-90. Aldridge went 6-of-6 from the free throw line as part of a 14-0 run that gave the Blazers a 12-point cushion with just over three minutes remaining.
Leading 54-49 at the half, Golden State came out in the third stanza on a 16-7 run which gave the Warriors their largest lead of the game, 70-56.
Portland trimmed the deficit to 79-71 after a Matthews jumper and then the fracas ensued.
Portland's Joel Freeland and Golden State's Andrew Bogut got tangled up after the made basket and both sides flew to their teammates' aid. Matthews and Williams came flying and coaches and officials had to step up to squelch the situation.
Bogut, Aldridge, and Freeland were all handed technicals and ejections.
"Nights like this, it needs to marinate in your spirit," said Golden State head coach Mark Jackson. "Sometimes hitting the road is a good thing for a team that is struggling."
Golden State led 24-23 after the first quarter and built a 12-point second quarter lead with three minutes left before Portland cut the deficit to five at the break.
David Lee scored 15 points with 12 rebounds for Golden State, which lost its third consecutive game.
