Description: Rockies lefty Josh Outman will assume Jamie Moyer's spot in the rotation.
Insight: The 49-year-old Moyer was designated for assignment by Colorado after serving up four earned runs or more in five of his last six starts, though he doesn't sound like he's ready to retire. Outman has made 25 starts in his career (all with Oakland), going 8-7 with a 3.78 ERA and 91 strikeouts in 138 innings. However, Outman is an extreme flyball pitcher, a skill that plays a lot better in Oakland than it does in Colorado.

Description: Josh Outman will start the season on the DL as a result of an oblique injury.
Insight: Outman looked primed to join the Colorado starting rotation. Now he'll have to wait a little bit longer for that opportunity. Outman was 3-5 in 13 appearances (nine starts) for the A's last year with a 3.70 ERA. Those numbers came in a pitcher's park and Coors Field is the polar opposite of that. We don't see Outman showing much improvement in 2012 even if he's healthy most of the year.

Description: Josh Outman gave up two runs in 1 1/3 relief innings today.
Insight: This is a step back in his battle for the last rotation spot with Brandon McCarthy and Rich Harden. McCarthy may be in the lead right now but it's a very close call.
