Description: Washington starter Ross Detwiler will begin the season in the bullpen, Nats manager Matt Williams said Monday. SOURCE: Adam Kilgore, Washington Post
Insight: Detwiler had a solid 3.59 ERA and a 1.30 WHIP in 235 2/3 innings the last two seasons, but his 5.5 K/9 didn't help fantasy owners much. The final spot in Washington's rotation will come down to Tanner Roark and Taylor Jordan.

Insight: Can things get any worse for the Nationals right now? They've lost six straight, they fired their hitting coach earlier in the week and now this? Just brutal. Detwiler is expected to miss at least another month though it barely matters anymore. Barring some kind of miracle, this looks like a lost season.

Description: According to Dan Kolko of MASNSports.com, Nationals lefty Ross Detwiler's scheduled bullpen session Friday was canceled. Detwiler is still feeling discomfort in his back after throwing off flat ground Thursday.
Insight: Detwiler was placed on the DL July 7 with a lower back strain. He is doubtful to start Tuesday and is questionable to return to start one of the games in next Friday's doubleheader against the Mets. "For me, he would have to throw today or tomorrow and do a side (session) and then pitch in a (rehab) game," manager Davey Johnson said. "And I don't think we're going to do it by then. But I'm going to put that question to our great medical staff, see if they can't get him ready to go."
