Red Sox name Lovullo bench coach

Boston, MA (Sports Network) - The Boston Red Sox have named Torey Lovullo as bench coach for new manager John Farrell.

Farrell was introduced as the club's manager earlier this week, taking over for the fired Bobby Valentine.

Lovullo had served as Farrell's first base coach in Toronto for the past two seasons and managed Boston's Triple-A affiliate in Pawtucket in 2010.

The 47-year-old Lovullo has nine years of minor league managing experience, compiling a record of 661-609. He spent eight seasons as a skipper in the Cleveland minor league system from 2002-2009, the first five when Farrell was the Indians' director of player development from 2002-06.

Lovullo played parts of eight big league seasons, mostly as an infielder, for the Tigers, Yankees, Angels, Mariners, Athletics, Indians and Phillies. He hit .224 in 303 major league games.
