Three new events featured on 2013 Champions schedule
Ponte Vedra Beach, FL (Sports Network) - The Champions Tour announced its 2013 schedule Wednesday and three new events have been added for a total of 26 tournaments.
Atlanta, Chicago and Calgary will host the new events. The schedule will feature as many as 26 tournaments for the first time since 2009.
The season opens in mid-January on the big island of Hawaii with the Mitsubishi Electric Championship at Hualalai, then heads to Florida the first full week of February with the Allianz Championship.
The first new event takes place the week after the Masters in April, as the TPC Sugarloaf in Georgia will host the Greater Gwinnett Championship. North Shore Country Club outside Chicago will host the Encompass Championship from June 21-23. Encompass hosted the Pro-Am event in Florida the last several years, but this is branded as a new event with a new location.
The third new event -- the Calgary Golf Classic -- takes place from Aug. 30- Sept. 1 in western Canada.
This year's five major championships will be played in a span of seven events between late May and late July.
The Senior PGA Championship opens the major season from May 23-26 at Bellerive Country Club in St. Louis and the Regions Championship takes place two weeks later at Shoal Creek in Alabama.
Three weeks later, Fox Chapel Golf Club in Pittsburgh will host the Senior Players Championship. The U.S. Senior Open follows from July 11-14 from Omaha Country Club in Nebraska and the Senior British Open is two weeks after at Royal Birkdale.
The 2013 campaign closes the first weekend of November with the Charles Schwab Cup Championship. The event moves from Arizona to the TPC Harding Park in San Francisco, where it was held in 2010 and 2011.
