Fisher rolls to Tshwane Open title
Centurion, South Africa (SportsNetwork.com) - Ross Fisher carded a 2-under 70 on Sunday to claim the title of the Tshwane Open.
Fisher earned his fifth career win on the European Tour and first since the 2010 3 Irish Open at 20-under-par 268.
"I'm thrilled to get over the line," Fisher said about his first win in nearly four years.
Michael Hoey (68) and Danie Van Tonder (66) shared second place at Copperleaf Golf & Country Estate at 17-under, while Carlos De Moral (68) finished alone in fourth at 16-under 272.
Hennie Otto (68) took fifth place at 15-under.
Fisher entered the final round with a seemingly comfortable 5-stroke lead, but traded birdies at the first and seventh around a bogey at the third during an outward 35 to allow Hoey to make a charge.
Hoey, who was playing in the final group along with Fisher, recorded birdies at the first and eighth to go along with a 15-foot eagle putt at the fourth to move to 16-under and pull within two of Fisher at the turn.
Hoey birdied the 11th from 30 feet to cut his deficit to just one, but followed that by finding the water at the 12th en route to a double-bogey 6 to fall three strokes off the pace.
Fisher then converted a 25-foot eagle putt at the 15th to move to 21-under and regain a comfortable cushion. He would bogey the last to end at 20-under, while Hoey birdied the 15th to finish three shots off the pace.
"I set a target of trying to go out there and shoot in the 60s and almost managed to do it," said Fisher. "It would have been nice to shoot 69, but unfortunately I missed one on the last. I'm not going to complain."
Van Tonder recorded six birdies during his bogey-free round to earn his share of second place.
NOTES: Fisher had made 79 starts between victories ... Fisher has now converted all four of his 54-hole leads into a win ... This is Fisher's third top-10 finish in seven starts this season ... Fisher is expected to move from 82nd to 65th in the Official World Golf Ranking.
