SDSU struck less than a minute into the game when Kaehler hooked up with Lockett for a 39-yard touchdown, but the Rebels answered on their first possession on a five-yard scoring strike from Herring to Davis.

The Rebels added to their advantage with less than two minutes to play in the half when Nolan Kohorst booted a 50-yard field goal.

UNLV further padded its lead on the first drive of the second half, as it capped off a seven-play, 67-yard possession with a five-yard touchdown rush by Herring.

After 35 unanswered points by the Rebels, SDSU finally stopped the bleeding late in the third quarter when Pumphrey rushed in a score from one yard out, although the ensuing PAT was missed.

Herring added to his outstanding performance early in the fourth quarter. He tossed a 32-yard touchdown pass to Marcus Sullivan at the 14:43 mark of the frame, then three minutes later he hooked up with Davis for yet another score from six yards away, allowing Davis to tie UNLV's single-game record for receiving touchdowns.
