Los Angeles, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Nelson Agholor caught seven passes for 161 yards and a touchdown as the Trojans took a 38-31 win over Arizona in their first game since the firing of Lane Kiffin.
Kiffin was let go after going just 10-8 as head coach over the past two seasons. He was replaced on an interim basis by defensive line coach and recruiting coordinator Ed Orgeron.
Silas Redd ran for 80 of USC's 249 yards rushing for the Trojans (4-2, 1-2 Pac-12), who jumped out to a 28-3 second-quarter lead before holding on for the victory in the fourth.
Cody Kessler was 15-of-30 for 297 yards and two scores in the triumph.
B.J. Denker completed 28-of-44 passes for 363 yards and four scores for Arizona (3-2, 0-2), which has dropped back-to-back tilts since beginning the campaign 3-0.
Kadeem Carey carried the ball 21 times for 138 yards in defeat.
The Wildcats trailed 38-17 in the fourth before Denker hit David Richards for a 9-yard score and then Garic Wharton for a 28-yard TD reception on back-to- back Arizona possession to pull the visitors within 38-31 with 4:18 left.
USC, though, picked up three first downs on its next offensive sequence to seal the win.
Agholor hauled in a 62-yard touchdown pass and Tre Madden added a 63-yard TD reception in the first quarter before Jake Smith nailed a 27-yard field goal early in the second to get Arizona on the board.
Justin Davis and Javorius Allen then ran for touchdowns of 11 and one yard, respectively, to give USC its 25-point edge late in the second.
Denker tossed a 57-yard score to Nate Phillips to bring the Wildcats within 28-10 heading into the break.
Andre Heidari kicked a 45-yard field goal to cap the Trojans' initial drive of the third.
Denker hit Wharton for a 45-yard score late in the third and Allen scampered in from four yards out on the second play of the fourth for a 21-point USC spread.
