OSU edges Auburn for No. 2 in AP poll; 'Bama falls to fourth
New York, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - Auburn's win over Alabama on Saturday was not enough to push the Tigers past Ohio State in the latest AP poll.
Only two unbeaten teams from power conferences remain -- Florida State and Ohio State -- after Auburn stunned previously top-ranked and two-time defending national champion Alabama on Saturday.
The Tigers needed a miraculous field goal return on the game's final play to win, but it wasn't enough to give them the edge over the Buckeyes despite picking up a pair of first-place votes.
The Seminoles completed their perfect regular season with Saturday's win over rival Florida and took over the top spot after receiving the other 58 first- place votes for a total of 1,498 points from a nationwide media panel.
The Buckeyes, who thwarted Michigan's 2-point conversion try to hold on for a 42-41 win on Saturday, picked up 1,418 points to narrowly beat out Auburn (1,387 points) for the No. 2 spot.
Alabama, which had been atop the poll the entire season, dropped to fourth, while Missouri sits at No. 5 after securing a spot in next week's SEC Championship Game against Auburn with a win over Texas A&M.
