NCAA Game Summary - Colorado State at New Mexico

Albuquerque, NM (SportsNetwork.com) - Kapri Bibbs ran for 291 yards and a Mountain West Conference record six touchdowns on 38 carries as the Colorado State Rams outlasted the New Mexico Lobos, 66-42, in a conference shootout at Branch Field.

For the Rams (6-5,4-2 MWC), Garrett Grayson threw for 302 yards and three touchdowns without an interception, on 20-of-28 passing. Rashard Higgins caught three passes for 71 yards and a score while Crockett Gillmore added 77 yards receiving on four catches.

Crusoe Gongbay ran for 98 yards and a score on 12 carries for the Lobos (3-7,1-5). Cole Gautsche threw for 133 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions on 6-of-9 passing. Clayton Mitchem also saw time at quarterback, throwing for 116 yards on 5-of-8 passing. Tyler Duncan pulled in four receptions for 95 yards and a score.

Grayson found Joe Hansley in the end zone for an eight-yard touchdown pass just three minutes into the game to give the Rams the early lead. They would extend that lead when Grayson hooked up with Chris Nwoke for a 43-yard scoring pass with just over five minutes remaining in the first quarter.

On the next series the Lobos answered with a big play of their own, as Gautsche connected with Reece White for a 50-yard touchdown pass. After CSU added a 52-yard field goal early in the second quarter to go up 17-7, Carlos Wiggins ran the ensuing kickoff all the way back for a touchdown, cutting the lead to 17-14.

Grayson threw his third touchdown pass of the night when he hit Higgins for a 15-yard scoring strike. Gautsche answered with a touchdown pass to Duncan to make the score 24-21 with just over five minutes to play in the half. The Rams extended their lead when Bibbs ran it in from 11 yards out with 3:48 to play in the half.

New Mexico struck back quickly after halftime, scoring on a seven-yard touchdown run by Teriyon Gipson just 37 seconds into the third. CSU quickly responded, moving the ball 82 yards in eight plays and scoring when Bibbs dashed in from 27 yards out to push the Rams back up by 10, 38-28, with 11:31 to play in the third. The Lobos cut their deficit back to three, 38-35, with a Jhurell Pressley 12-yard touchdown run midway through the third. Bibbs scored for the second time later in the third on a one-yard rushing score. The Lobos closed out a high-scoring quarter when Gongbay punched it in from the three- yard line to again bring the Lobos within three, 45-42.

The fourth quarter belonged to Bibbs, He scored three times in the period as the Rams pulled away for the victory. With scoring runs of seven yards, 26 yards and 18 yards, the last with under a minute remaining in the contest, he extended his NCAA-leading total of rushing touchdowns to 25 for the season.

Both teams ran the ball well, with the Rams finishing with 347 yards rushing and the Lobos with 278 yards on the ground. There was just one punt in the contest, coming from the Rams.
