Durham, NC (SportsNetwork.com) - Paced by Anthony Boone's three touchdown passes, the Duke Blue Devils defeated the Navy Midshipmen, 35-7, in non- conference action Wallace Wade Stadium.
Boone threw for 295 yards and zero interceptions on 31-for-38 passing for the Blue Devils (4-2), who have won two straight. Jela Duncan led the home team with 45 rushing yard and a touchdown on nine attempts. Jamison Crowder led all receivers with 10 catches for 88 yards, while Issac Blakeney (five receptions, 57 yards) caught two touchdowns.
Navy (3-2) was unable to get anything going on offense. Midshipmen quarterback Keenan Reynolds went 6-for-13 through the air for 89 yards while adding 31 yards on the ground on 16 carries. Chris Swain had a game-high 61 rushing yards on 13 attempts. DeBrandon Sanders was Navy's top receiver with three catches and 55 yards.
After a scoreless opening frame, Duke struck at the 9:35 mark of the second quarter when Boone threw a 27-yard touchdown pass to Blakeney. Navy answered back with a seven-yard touchdown rush by Darius Staten less than two minutes later, but those would be the only points of the afternoon for the Midshipmen.
With 4:35 remaining before the intermission, Boone threw another touchdown, this time a three-yard fade to Max McCaffrey to put Duke up, 14-7.
On Duke's first drive of the second half, Boone threw an 18-yard touchdown pass to Blakeney to extend its lead to 14 points.
The Blue Devils added a pair of rushing scores to close out the contest. Duncan ran in a score from five yards out with 3:42 left in the third quarter, then Shaquille Powell recorded a seven-yard touchdown early in the fourth quarter.
Duke had nearly 35 minutes of possession time thanks largely to its outstanding success on third down (10-of-16).
