GAME NOTES: The Rider Broncs welcome the Saint Peter's Peacock to Alumni Gym for a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference tussle.
Saint Peter's enters the contest in search of a third consecutive victory as the Peacocks begin a three-game road trip. They were in action this past Sunday as they claimed a 74-67 home win over Quinnipiac.
Rider salvaged its three-game road trip with a 90-78 win at Niagara on Sunday. The Broncs are making a brief stop in Lawrenceville before hitting the road again to face Marist on Saturday and then Manhattan next Friday.
Rider swept both meetings last season and owns a 29-24 lead in the all-time series with Saint Peter's.
The Peacocks played aggressive defense in the early going against Quinnipiac as they claimed a 32-20 halftime lead after holding the Bobcats to 8-of-36 (.222) shooting from the floor in the first half. Quinnipiac hung around in the second stanza, but the deficit proved too steep to overcome. Chris Burke led four Peacocks in double figures with 18 points, followed by Marvin Dominique with 17. Trevis Wyche helped get Saint Peter's off to a quick 11-2 lead and he finished with a career-high 16 points. As a team, the Peacocks are shooting just 39.9 percent from the floor while averaging 65.5 ppg. Dominique leads the way with 18.1 points and 9.3 rebounds per tilt, and he is shooting a team-best 40 percent from 3-point range. Desi Washington is also averaging double figures with 13.1 ppg.
Headlining Rider's starting-five is guard Anthony Myles, a 39-percent 3-point shooter who is tallying 19.2 ppg and 4.5 rpg. Daniel Stewart (14.5 ppg) can also step outside and hit a three (15-of-34), but his biggest contribution is down in the paint, where he is pulling down a team-best 6.1 rebounds per game. Jimmie Taylor (11.7 ppg) and Zedric Sadler (11.4 ppg) round out the Broncs' double-digit scorers. Less than two days after falling in double-overtime at Canisius, the team rebounded with a solid road victory against Niagara on Sunday. Myles and Sadler scored 20 points apiece in the victory, while Taylor and Stewart added 15 and 14 points, respectively. The Broncs shot a healthy 55.3 percent from the floor and made 10-of-20 threes.
The Broncs have had the upper hand in this series of late. With a well- balanced offense and the homecourt advantage in this matchup, look for Rider to remain in the win column.
