GAME NOTES: A double-overtime loss is the only thing separating a potential seven-game win streak for the Ohio University Bobcats. Instead, Ohio has won two games in a row and is looking to make it three as it hosts the Bowling Green Falcons in Mid-American Conference play at the Convocation Center.
Bowling Green has also won two games in a row, though the mini streak is following a sour-game skid. The Falcons are coming off a 69-64 victory against Western Michigan in conference action.
Ohio has won six of its last seven games, including a 65-46 blowout of Northern Illinois Saturday in MAC action. The Bobcats are tied for the MAC East Division lead at 3-1 in the conference.
Bowling Green has a 10-game advantage in the all-time series lead against Ohio, 72-62. The last time the Falcons won at Ohio however, was back in the 2009 season.
Bowling Green had to overcome a 15-point second-half deficit against Western Michigan for the win. The Falcons couldn't have done it without Anthony Henderson and his 27 points, including 7-of-10 shooting from 3-point distance. Spencer Parker contributed 13 points, Jehvon Clarke had 12 and Richaun Holmes scored 10 in the win. The Falcons shot 63.6 percent from distance in the second half, leading to 42 second-half points. Bowling Green shot an even 40 percent in the contest.
Holmes tops the Falcons in scoring this season with a 14.3 ppg average on an impressive 54.2 percent shooting from the floor. Holmes also leads the team with a 7.5 rpg mark and has 55 blocked shots on the year. Clarke is third on the team with 11.5 ppg and tops the squad with 4.6 apg. The Falcons are only averaging 63.5 ppg through 17 contests, but hold their opponents to 62.7 ppg.
Ohio trailed by one point at the half to Northern Illinois, but made a huge run in the second frame to record the lopsided win. The Bobcats have now won a program record 10 of their past 11 conference road games. Nick Kellogg led Ohio with 16 points in the win, shooting 6-of-8 from the floor. Maurice Ndour chipped in 10 points and grabbed eight rebounds for the Bobcats. Ohio shot an impressive 51 percent from the field in the contest.
Ndour recently surpassed Kellogg as the team's top scorer. Ndour nets 14.9 ppg on 51.4 percent shooting from the floor, and adds a team-best 7.2 rpg to his stat line. Kellogg checks in at 14.7 ppg on 48.3 percent shooting, including 44.7 percent from 3-point distance. Stevie Taylor leads the Bobcats with 55 assists on the year. Ohio scores an average of 72.2 ppg.
Bowling Green has been able to bounce back from the four-game losing streak, but Ohio is playing some of the best basketball in the MAC right now. At home with a very well-rounded lineup, the Bobcats should be able to extend their two-game win streak.
