GAME NOTES: The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets will try to end a two-game losing streak as they travel to face the Wake Forest Demon Deacons in Atlantic Coast Conference action at Lawrence Joel Coliseum.
Georgia Tech has lost two in a row and four of its last five games, all in ACC play. The Yellow Jackets are coming off a 78-65 defeat at the hands of North Carolina, dropping them to 2-6 in conference play.
Wake Forest had a two-game winning streak snapped in its last game - a 67-57 loss to second-ranked Syracuse. The Demon Deacons have won three of their last five games, but fell back to .500 in ACC play (4-4) with the loss to the Orange.
Georgia Tech holds a very slim 38-37 lead in the all-time series between the two programs. This is the first and only time they will meet on the hardwood during the regular season.
North Carolina held just a 26-25 lead at the half against Georgia Tech, but the Tar Heels pulled away behind 17 Marcus Paige second-half points. Trae Golden led all scorers in the contest, netting 21 points for the Yellow Jackets on 6-of-17 shooting from the floor. Marcus Georges-Hunt chipped in 17 points and Daniel Miller scored 12 in the loss. Georgia Tech shot 41.8 percent from the field against UNC.
Golden leads the team in scoring this season with 14.6 ppg on 42.2 percent shooting. His 71 assists is a team high, but so are his 52 turnovers. Miller, who has been a force underneath the basket since Robert Carter's absence, averages 10.7 ppg and 7.8 rpg for the Yellow Jackets. Georges-Hunt is second on the team in scoring with 12 ppg. Georgia Tech as a unit is averaging 69.3 ppg through 21 contests played.
Wake Forest's loss to Syracuse represented the first home loss for the Demon Deacons this season. Each team had a relatively light night on the offensive end, but Syracuse held the edge in rebounding in the contest, 55-35. The Deacons shot just 34 percent from the floor in the game, and only received double-digit point totals from two players. Both Devin Thomas and Travis McKie netted 12 points to pace Wake Forest, which shot a dismal 15 percent from 3- point range in the game.
Codi Miller-McIntyre leads the Deacons in scoring this season with 14.6 ppg on 44.9 percent shooting from the floor. Miller-McIntyre tops the squad with 82 assists on the year and is second on the team in steals with 16. Thomas and McKie are second and third, respectively, on the Deacons in scoring at 11.5 ppg and 10.3 ppg. Thomas leads the team in rebounding with an 8.3 rpg average. Wake Forest is averaging 71.4 ppg through 21 games played.
The Demon Deacons have been a dominant force on their home court, having only lost to one of the few remaining unbeaten teams in the nation. Both teams are average in terms of scoring, but Wake Forest is playing slightly better defense.
