Indiana State is fresh off a huge, 68-55, win over 15th-ranked Wichita State on the road. It was the second win in a row for the Sycamores, and fourth in the past five games. With the win, ISU improved to 14-7 overall and 7-3 in MVC action.
Meanwhile, the Bulldogs earned a 61-56 win over Southern Illinois their last time. It was the second win in three games for Drake, which has gone back and forth winning and losing over its last five outings. The Bulldogs are now one game under .500 overall and two under the mark in-conference (4-6).
ISU leads the all-time series 40-35 and has won seven of the last 10 matchups. In the last meeting, the Sycamores took a 61-54 win last February at the Hulman Center in Terre Haute.
The Sycamores held the Shockers to just 27.1 percent shooting from the floor while shooting an efficient 53.3 percent themselves. Manny Arop led the team in scoring, going 7-of-11 from the field for 17 points with a team-high six rebounds. Devonte Brown and Jake Odum added 10 points each for Indiana State which went 17-of-21 from the free-throw line. Arop and Brown each recorded two steals, while the squad scored 17 points off 11 Shocker turnovers. Both Odum and Arop are shooting over 45.0 percent from the field this season, while Odum is scoring 13.9 ppg and Arop is just behind him with 13.2 ppg. They are the only players averaging in double figures but the team is holding opponents to below 40.0 percent shooting from the field and just 64.7 ppg.
Drake knocked down 8-of-15 3-point attempts against Southern Illinois while shooting 50.0 percent from the floor. Chris Hines led the squad in scoring with 12 points, while Jordan Clarke added 11 points and six rebounds and Joey King managed 10 points before fouling out. The Bulldogs did turn the ball over 20 times which led to 21 points for SIU but defensively they were able to hold the Salukis to 36.5 percent from the field and just 6-of-25 from downtown. Ben Simons is the only player averaging in double-digit scoring with 14.1 ppg, while Seth VanDeest and Hines each contribute 9.5 ppg. Clarke is the Bulldogs' top rebounder with 8.1 per game to go with his 8.5 ppg on 55.8 percent shooting from the field. The Bulldogs score 72.0 ppg but allow their opponents to put up 73.2 per game (311th in the nation).
Indiana State plays solid on both the offensive and defensive ends. Coming off the win over a top-15 team, the Sycamores will have some strong momentum heading into the Knapp Center and will look to get going early en route to the victory.
