Chestnut Hill, MA (Sports Network) - Ryan Anderson poured in 24 points, and the Boston College Eagles fended off the previously red-hot Providence Friars, 71-68, in a matchup between former conference rivals at the Conte Forum.

Olivier Hanlan added 17 points and 12 rebounds to help lift the Eagles (6-5) to their third straight victory.

The Friars (8-3) saw their six-game winning streak come to a halt despite a game-high 33 points from Bryce Cotton, who shot 7-of-14 from beyond the arc. Kadeem Batts joined Cotton in double figures with 14 points to go along with seven rebounds.

The game featured 12 ties and 14 lead changes, with BC's six-point lead at the 7:22 mark of the first half representing the largest advantage by either team. The Eagles made 5-of-9 3-pointers in the opening frame while holding Providence to 36.4-percent shooting from the floor, although the teams went to the locker room tied at 36-36 at halftime.

Neither team shot better than 40 percent from the floor in the second stanza, although BC held a key 13-6 scoring edge at the foul line over the final 20 minutes to secure the victory.

Providence shot just 36.5 percent from the floor for the game.
