(Saturday, February 22nd)

Final Score: Marquette 96, DePaul 94 (OT)

Rosemont, IL (SportsNetwork.com) - Davante Gardner finished with 22 points to lead the Marquette Golden Eagles to a 96-94 overtime win over the DePaul Blue Demons in a Big East Conference thriller at Allstate Arena.

Todd Mayo added 19 points for Marquette (16-11, 8-6 Big East), which also received 18 points and nine rebounds courtesy of Jamil Wilson. Chris Otule contributed 12 points as the Golden Eagles notched their fourth win in five outings.

The Blue Demons (10-18, 2-13) came up short despite a terrific showing by Brandon Young, who tallied a season-high 29 points, six assists and five rebounds. Billy Garrett also had a solid showing with a career-high 26 points, while Durrell McDonald netted 13 points in 24 minutes off the bench.

The Golden Eagles knocked down 55.6 percent of their field goal attempts including 4-of-5 from behind the 3-point line in the opening period. DePaul went into the intermission trailing, 44-41, after it shot 45.2 percent from the floor and committed seven turnovers in the first half.

Marquette began the second stanza on a 14-2 run that gave it a 15-point lead, but the Blue Demons refused to go away. Garrett sank a 3-point field goal attempt on the last play of the second half to tie the score at 82 and force an extra session.

In overtime, Derrick Wilson gave Marquette a four-point lead with a layup and Gardner sank a pair of free-throw attempts to extend the advantage to six points. McDonald made it a one-possession game with a successful 3-point field goal try on the next possession and Young made a layup with six seconds left to make it 96-94. Gardner lobbed the ball across the timeline with just seconds showing on the clock, but McDonald intercepted the pass before time expired. Luckily for the Golden Eagles, McDonald did not have enough time to get off a last second prayer.

DePaul has now lost 10 games in a row.
