Warren, Ole Miss use big second half to beat McNeese State
Oxford, MS (Sports Network) - Chris Warren led the way with 20 points as 25th-ranked Ole Miss used a second-half burst to down McNeese State, 83-67, at Tad Smith Coliseum.
Murphy Holloway posted 13 points and five rebounds while Eniel Polynice added 12 points and nine assist for the Rebels (8-1), who have won four in a row.
Patrick Richard scored 20 points for the Cowboys (3-5), who had won two in a row. Diego Kapelan tallied 18 points in defeat, thanks to shooting 6-for-13 from beyond the arc.
Richard drained a three less than four minutes into the second half and McNeese State opened up what seemed to be a safe 47-32 edge, but Ole Miss began chipping away.
DeAundre Cranston hit a bucket and Warren drained a three to start the comeback, but Kapelan's three proved to be a small bump in the road back which gave the Cowboys a 57-43 lead with 12:38 to play.
Polynice's lay-in dropped the deficit below double digits prior to the midway point at 59-50, then five straight from Graham drew Ole Miss even at 59-59 with 6:54 to play.
A Polynice steal and layup on the break over a minute later put the Rebels up 65-61. A 16-6 run from there cemented the victory. Graham's slam with 20 ticks left opened up an 81-67 advantage. Terrico White drained two from long range and Warren added another during the deciding burst.
A Will Morning jumper put the Cowboys behind 11-10, kicking off a brief run, and Stephan Martin's deuce in the paint with 6:57 left in the half gave the visitors an 18-14 edge.
Back-to-back threes put Ole Miss on top by two, but a trey from Kapelan provided a 21-20 edge for McNeese and it did not relinquish the lead until the break. Richard's dunk in the final 30 seconds made it 34-28 for the Cowboys.
Ole Miss has won seven of the eight meetings, and all five in Oxford...The Rebels committed only seven turnovers in the victory...McNeese State owned a slight 36-35 edge on the glass.
