Springfield, MO (Sports Network) - Kyle Weems scored a game-high 16 points to lead the Missouri State Bears to a 70-53 win over the Fighting Hawks of Maryland-Eastern Shore as part of the Hispanic College Fund Classic at JQH Arena.

Also scoring in double figures for the Bears (2-0) was Adam Leonard who tallied 11 points on 4-of-5 shooting from the floor.

The Fighting Hawks (0-3) were paced by Kevin White and Hillary Haley with 11 points apiece, followed by Mark Robertson with 10 points in the third setback in as many games this season.

Both teams made a total of just nine field goals in the first quarter of play, leaving them knotted at 26-26 at the break.

In the second half the Fighting Hawks again made just nine field goals, while Missouri State knocked down 55.6 percent from the floor and 12-of-20 at the free-throw line to secure the 17-point win.

In a game that saw 10 ties and six lead changes, Maryland-Eastern Shore hurt itself with only 38.3 percent shooting from the field and 12-of-21 at the charity stripe.
