Final Score: Niagara 74, Siena 62

Springfield, MA (Sports Network) - Antoine Mason made all 10 of his attempts at the free-throw line en route to 21 points as the top-seeded Niagara Purple Eagles defeated the ninth-seeded Siena Saints, 74-62, in the quarterfinals of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Championship at the MassMutual Center.

Juan'ya Green tallied 15 points, six assists and five rebounds for Niagara (19-12), which will take on Iona in the semifinals on Sunday.

Evan Hymes and Rob Poole scored 14 points each for Siena (8-24), which also received one final double-double from O.D. Anosike, who tallied 13 points and 10 rebounds. Anosike, who led the nation in rebounding a season ago, finished his career with 46 double-doubles.

Siena shot 43.5 percent from the field including 5-of-8 from 3-point range in the opening 20 minutes, but it also went just 6-of-14 at the free-throw line before the break. Despite hitting on just 33.3 percent of their field goal tries, the Purple Eagles took a 32-31 lead into halftime.

Niagara pulled away after the intermission as they converted 12-of-13 at the charity stripe.

The Saints shot an even 50 percent from the floor, made 9-of-16 from 3-point range and held a 32-30 edge in the rebounding battle. However, it was not enough to overcome their 20 turnovers.

Final Score: Iona 89, Canisius 85

Springfield, MA (Sports Network) - Lamont Jones scored a game-high 33 points as the Iona Gaels held on to defeat the Canisius Golden Griffins, 89-85, in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference quarterfinal action at the MassMutual Center.

Sean Armand added 24 points for the Gaels (18-13). Taaj Ridley contributed 13 points and five rebounds. David Laury recorded a double-double with 10 points and 14 boards. Iona will go on to face the Niagara Purple Eagles in the semifinals.

For the Golden Griffins (18-13), Billy Baron scored a team-high 24 points. Harold Washington chipped in 17 points and five assists, while Jordan Heath and Chris Manhertz added 13 points apiece. Alshwan Hymes put up 11 points off the bench.

In the first half, Canisius made 6-of-12 from the foul line. Iona knocked down 15-of-18 free-throws, en route to the 42-37 advantage at the break.

In the second, both teams shot over 50 percent from the floor. Canisius made 6-of-9 foul shots, while Iona made 19-of-22 as it took the four-point victory.

Iona made an impressive 34-of-40 from the foul line and outrebounded Canisius, 37-28.

Final Score: Fairfield 43, Rider 42

Springfield, MA (Sports Network) - Derek Needham scored 19 points as the seventh-seed Fairfield Stags upset the second-seed Rider Broncs, 43-42, in the quarterfinals of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Tournament at MassMutual Center.

Maurice Barrow added nine points for Fairfield (19-14). The Stags will play the winner of the quarterfinal contest between sixth-seed Manhattan and third- seed Loyola-Maryland.

Jonathon Thompson had 12 points and Daniel Stewart added 10 rebounds for Rider (18-14).

Each team shot below 30 percent from the field while combining for just 12 field goals in the first half. The Stags had the only field goal from beyond the arc in the period and led 18-14 at the break.

Both teams improved modestly in the second period. Fairfield shot 31.8 percent while Rider was at 36.4 percent. The Broncs cut their deficit to a single point four separate times in the final two minutes but the Stags notched 6-of-8 shots from the free-throw line in the last 20 seconds to hold on.

Rider had the 42-30 edge in rebounds but also had a game-high 21 turnovers.
