GAME NOTES: After winning 14 consecutive games to finish the regular season, the top-seeded Davidson Wildcats will face off with the Georgia Southern Eagles in the quarterfinals of the Southern Conference Tournament at the U.S. Cellular Center.

Davidson forward Jake Cohen was named SoCon Player of the Year last week after posting 14.9 points and 5.7 rebounds per game this season. His outside shooting ability, combined with the slashing of De'Mon Brooks (13.4 ppg, 6.3 rpg) helped make Davidson the highest scoring team in the conference this season at 73.6 ppg. Nik Cochran, a Third-Team All-SoCon selection, enters today's action having made 30 straight free throws. He finished first in the nation at 95.5 percent from the charity stripe.

Georgia Southern would not have made it this far without Eric Ferguson, who averaged a team-best 13.8 points and 6.3 rebounds per game. C.J. Reed led the club with 3.8 apg for the season and netted 14.5 ppg in conference play.

Reed tallied 16 points and five assists in a Georgia Southern win over Davidson earlier this season, handing the Wildcats their only conference loss. However Davidson got its revenge a week ago when they dismantled the Eagles 83-48 behind 20 points and seven rebounds from Brooks. Davidson leads the all- time series, 29-7.

Davidson is outscoring opponents by 18.9 points per game during its current winning streak, while holding its opposition to 39.1 percent shooting from the floor. The Wildcats earned a bye in the first round of the tournament. Coach Bob McKillop has already acquired seven SoCon Tournament championships.

The Eagles defeated ninth-seeded Wofford in the first round of the tournament behind 17 points from Ferguson. Georgia Southern held Wofford without a field goal for the final 7:13 of the first half and used a 16-0 run to pull away. Tre Bussey added 12 points and nine rebounds while Reed finished with 10 points, six rebounds and a game-high four assists.

If Georgia Southern hopes to defeat Davidson for the second time this season, it must limit the Wildcats' 3-point shooting attack that led the conference this season. The winner of this contest will advance to the semifinals to await the winner of Furman and Appalachian State.

Sports Network Predicted Outcome: Davidson 77, Georgia Southern 61
