NCAA Game Summary - Lafayette at Georgetown

(Saturday, November 28th)

Final Score: (18) Georgetown 97, Lafayette 64

Washington, DC (Sports Network) - Jason Clark scored a career-high 19 points and Hollis Thompson added 16, as the two combined for seven three-pointers to help 18th-ranked Georgetown pull away for a 97-64 victory over Lafayette at the Verizon Center.

Chris Wright scored 14 points and Greg Monroe contributed 13 with nine rebounds in a balanced attack for the Hoyas (4-0), who had six players reach double figures in their second straight blowout win.

"I don't know how deep they are, but they certainly have a lot of pieces," Lafayette head coach Fran O'Hanlon said of Georgetown. "It's still so early in the season to decide who's going to take that next step, but any time you have a guy like Monroe, you always have a chance."

Georgetown squeezed past Temple, 46-45, on November 17 in its last home game, then rolled to a 19-point win at Savannah State before Saturday's 33-point rout.

Jared Mintz scored 16 points and Jim Mower added 12 for Lafayette (4-2), which had won three straight games.

Lafayette kept it relatively close for the better part of 12 minutes. The Leopards trailed just 25-23 after a putback by Mintz with 8 1/2 minutes to play, but Wright scored the next four points and a three-pointer by Thompson extended the Georgetown lead to nine.

The Hoyas led by as many as 16 late in the first half and settled for a 45-31 advantage at the break.

"You give a guy an open shot, it's going to go in. Once we stopped giving them open looks, we were able to pull away," Georgetown head coach John Thompson III said.

Georgetown then stormed out of the locker room with a 12-1 run, fueled by three-pointers from Austin Freeman and Clark. A steal by Clark led to a Wright layup at the other end, giving the Hoyas a 57-32 lead just 2 1/2 minutes into the second half.

The Leopards got only as close as 19 from there.
