Young and Pitt down North Carolina A&T

Pittsburgh, PA (Sports Network) - Sam Young scored 24 points and ripped down 11 rebounds as 22nd-ranked Pittsburgh cruised past North Carolina A&T, 88-61, at the Hispanic College Fund Classic.

Mike Cook had 13 points and five assists while Ronald Ramon contributed 12 points for the Panthers (2-0), who are hosting this round-robin event. In its season-opener on Friday, Pittsburgh dominated Houston Baptist in a 103-62 victory.

Steven Rush was the only player to score in double figures for North Carolina A&T (0-2) with 13 points.

The Aggies hung with Pittsburgh early in the first half and even held a 14-13 lead over seven minutes into the game. However, a Young three-pointer sparked 16 straight points that helped the Panthers open up a 34-17 lead with 4:23 left in the half. Ramon, Cook and Levance Fields also hit treys during the run.

The Panthers carried a 44-23 lead into the locker room and Pittsburgh effectively put the game away with 12 straight points to start the second half, capped by a Fields' three, to put the game away.

Game Notes

Pittsburgh outrebounded North Carolina A&T, 38-28...The Panthers shot 52.4 percent from the floor, including 44.4 percent (12-of-27) from three-point range...The Aggies shot just 40.7 percent from the field.
