The IZOD IndyCar Series returns to New Hampshire Motor Speedway after a 13-year hiatus.

The flat one-mile oval in New England played host to one of the five IndyCar races in its inaugural year (Aug. 8, 1996) with Scott Sharp taking the checkered flag. It was also the site of Robbie Buhl's first victory (Aug. 17, 1997) and Tony Stewart's third (June 28, 1998). CART-sanctioned races at this racetrack took place from 1992 to '95.

When Stewart won in 1998, he led the final 39 laps to defeat Scott Goodyear by 1.788 seconds. Stewart started sixth and led a total of 93 laps. Pole sitter Billy Boat failed to finish the race due to an accident. Only four cars finished the race on the final lap.

The 2011 IZOD IndyCar Series continues with the August 28 Indy Grand Prix of Sonoma at Infineon Raceway in Sonoma, CA. Will Power is the defending race winner.
