Description: With Corey Hart and Mat Gamel both out with knee injuries, Alex Gonzalez will be the Opening Day starter at first base despite never playing anywhere other than shortstop. SOURCE: Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel
Insight: Gonzalez is coming off a knee injury of his own, a torn ACL that ended his 2012 season after just 81 at-bats. He isn't much of a fantasy option at shortstop so gaining first base eligibility won't change his value at all.

5/17/2012 3:23:00 PM
Description: Alex Gonzalez had surgery to repair his torn ACL on Thursday.
Insight: Gonzalez will need the rest of the season to recover from this devastating injury. He finished the 2012 campaign with 4 HRs, 15 RBIs and a .259 average in 81 at bats for the Brewers.

5/7/2012 3:25:00 PM
Description: Alex Gonzalez has been diagnosed with a torn ACL after he had an MRI on Monday.
Insight: Gonzalez won't have surgery yet, as he'll undergo a week of treatment to see how the ligament responds. Either way, don't count on him playing again this season.

5/5/2012 9:47:00 PM
Description: Alex Gonzalez has been placed on the 15-day disabled list after injuring his knee in Saturday's game against San Francisco.
Insight: Cesar Izturis (.190, 0 HR, 1 RBI) will take over as Milwaukee's starting shortstop while Gonzalez is out.

5/5/2012 5:09:00 PM
Description: Alex Gonzalez injured his right ankle Saturday against the Giants and was replaced by Cesar Izturis in the second inning.
Insight: Gonzalez (.259, 4 HR, 15 RBIs) suffered the injury while sliding into second base. Gonzalez's bat will be tough for Milwaukee to replace, especially given how depleted their roster already is from recent injuries to Mat Gamel and Ryan Braun.

4/19/2012 11:19:00 AM
Description: Alex Gonzalez has been lethal in his career against Dodgers starter Aaron Harang. The Brewers shortstop is batting .636 in 11 at bats against the L.A. righthander.
Insight: Three of his seven hits have been for extra bases. Gonzalez (0-3 in his return to the Milwaukee lineup on Wednesday) also has 6 RBIs against Harang.

4/17/2012 7:15:00 PM
Description: Alex Gonzalez will not be in the Brewers starting lineup Tuesday night.
Insight: Gonzalez, who has missed the Brewers past few games to see the birth of his child, was expected to play tonight but instead he has been given an extra day off. We'd be shocked if Gonzalez (.214, 2 HRs, 6 RBIs) isn't in the lineup on Wednesday.

4/17/2012 3:02:00 PM
Description: Milwaukee shortstop Alex Gonzalez has returned from paternity leave that saw him miss the weekend's games.
Insight: The 35-year-old is batting .214 with two homers and six RBI over the first eight games this season.

4/17/2011 6:46:00 AM
Description: Braves SS Alex Gonzalez hit 2 homers in yesterday's win over the Mets.
Insight: Gonzalez has hit in 7 of his last 8 games and is now batting .255 and he should stay in that range all season. He does have 20+ homer potential but he has never hit 20 HR's a year on a consistent basis. Use him in NL-only leagues now but keep an eye on him in mixed leagues if you did not land one of the top tier shortstops.

10/15/2010 4:55:00 AM
Description: The Braves intend to pick up Alex Gonzalez's option and make him their starting SS next year. SOURCE: DAVID O'BRIEN ON TWITTER
Insight: Not a surprise after the type of year that he had. However, his power numbers dropped in Atlanta and no one should expect 20 homers from him in 2011.

10/6/2010 8:03:00 AM
Description: Gonzalez went 1-for-5 with a run scored on Sunday against the Phillies.
Insight: Gonzalez struggled down the stretch with only two hits in his final 32 at-bats. He ends the year batting .250 with 23 homers and a career-high 88 RBI. (RapidDraft.com)

9/26/2010 2:02:00 PM
Description: Gonzalez went 1-for-3 with a home run, three RBI and a run scored on Saturday against the Nationals.
Insight: Gonzalez hit his 23rd home run of the season and now has 88 RBI on the year. (RapidDraft.com)

9/19/2010 10:00:00 PM
Description: Gonzalez went 2-for-5 with two RBI on Sunday against the Mets.
Insight: Gonzalez has four hits and four RBI over his past two games as he now has 85 RBI on the year. (RapidDraft.com)

9/19/2010 3:01:00 PM
Description: Gonzalez went 2-for-3 with two doubles, two RBI and a walk on Saturday against the Mets.
Insight: Gonzalez broke out of an 0-for-12 slump as he now has 40 doubles and 84 RBI on the year. (RapidDraft.com)

9/12/2010 8:02:00 AM
Description: Gonzalez went 1-for-6 with a home run, three RBI and a run scored on Saturday against the Cardinals.
Insight: Gonzalez hit a walk-off home run as he now has 22 homers and 80 RBI overall this year. (RapidDraft.com)

8/25/2010 8:03:00 AM
Description: Gonzalez went 2-for-3 with a home run, two RBI and a run scored on Tuesday against the Rockies.
Insight: Gonzalez has hits in seven straight games with four doubles, a home run and eight RBI over that span. (SportsBuff.com)

8/22/2010 4:06:00 AM
Description: Gonzalez went 2-for-4 with a double, RBI, walk and a run scored on Saturday against the Cubs.
Insight: Gonzalez has hits in four straight games with seven hits in his last 15 at-bats. (SportsBuff.com)

8/19/2010 10:35:00 PM
Description: Gonzalez went 2-for-4 with a double on Thursday against the Nationals.
Insight: Gonzalez has four hits in his past two games and is now batting .259 on the year. (SportsBuff.com)

8/15/2010 3:53:00 PM
Description: Alex Gonzalez drove in four runs today, while hitting third for Atlanta.
Insight: The team has been using him regularly as their number three hitter since Chipper Jones went on the DL. He isn't going to help your batting average but if you need RBIs then Gonzalez can help you from your MI spot.

8/15/2010 6:19:00 AM
Description: Alex Gonzalez went 0-3 out of the third spot in the batting order last night and is hitting just .240 in the NL.
Insight: The Braves lineup is suddenly much less scary to target to starting pitchers. Without Prado and Chipper, a top four of Infante, Heyward, Gonzalez and Glaus is below average.
