Description: Evan Meek has been sent down to Triple-A Indianapolis. This is the second time this season that the 29-year-old righthander has been demoted.
Insight: Meek was an All-Star for Pittsburgh in 2010 but he hasn't been able to find that All-Star form yet this season. His ERA is 7.58 in 10.2 innings this year. Joel Hanrahan has a firm hold on the Pirates' closer job so even if Meek was doing well, he wouldn't have a ton of fantasy value.

4/5/2011 5:34:00 AM
Description: Evan Meek failed to record an out last night while giving up two runs.
Insight: He nearly blew a 4-1 lead. Not only is he no longer in the closer picture but he won't be setting up for Joel Hanrahan soon if he can't get it together. He wasn't great in the second half of 2010 and owns a 21.68 ERA so far this season.

Description: Pirates RP Evan Meek wants to win the closer position this spring. SOURCE: Pittsburgh Post-Gazette
Insight: Meek has value in mixed leagues even if he does not close since he strikes out almost a batter per inning, with low WHIP and ERA ratios.

2/14/2011 12:02:00 AM
Description: Early indicators have Meek standing behind Joel Hanrahan in the race to win Pittsburgh's closing job, including a Sunday report by the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review to that effect.
Insight: Meek was an all-star last season and finished with a 1.05 WHIP and 2.14 ERA, so he might be the safer option for the Pirates. Either way, this doesn't seem like a situation where one guy will hang onto the job all year. (RapidDraft.com)

Description: The Pirates will settle on a closer at the start or early on in spring training. SOURCE: MLB
Insight: Evan Meek or Joel Hanrahan will be the choice. This is a tough one to call right now as both young pitchers have plenty of potential.

Description: Evan Meek will likely get some save chances in the final three weeks. SOURCE: PITTSBURGH POST GAZETTE
Insight: He is worth using in deeper mixed leagues and NL-Only leagues.

Description: The Pittsburgh Post Gazette reports the Pirates plan to give Meek some save chances down the stretch,
Insight: Meek has pitched very well this season, and could make a case to be the Pirates' closer next season with a strong finish. (RapidDraft.com)

Description: Evan Meek is day-to-day with a bruised hand. SOURCE: PITTSBURGHLIVE.COM
Insight: This might be enough to get Joel Hanrahan into deeper mixed league lineups and Meek out of them in weekly transaction leagues.

8/24/2010 9:54:00 PM
Description: The Pirates chose to use Joel Hanrahan in the eighth inning tonight and Evan Meek in the ninth. Meek picked up the save but not before allowing four hits and a run.
Insight: We expect the Pirates to be very random with their save chances between these two relievers for the rest of the season. It's a situation for mixed league owners to avoid.

7/26/2010 10:57:00 AM
Description: The Pittsburgh Tribune Review expects that Meek and Joel Hanrahan will split closing duties if Octavio Dotel is traded.
Insight: Dotel, who is 20-for-25 in save chances this season, is reportedly being shopped around. Meek and Hanrahan could become worth consideration in NL-only leagues in particular. (SportsBuff.com)

7/5/2010 3:59:00 AM
Description: Meek picked up his fourth win of the season on Sunday against the Phillies.
Insight: Meek also has a 0.96 ERA this season, and could move into the closer role for Pittsburgh if Octavio Dotel is traded. (SportsBuff.com)

5/7/2010 10:28:00 AM
Description: Dejan Kovacevic of the Pittsburgh Post Gazette reports "many associated with the team" believe it's only a matter of time before Meek is the Pirates' closer.
Insight: Meek has allowed just one run over 17 innings this season, with a 15/7 K/BB ratio. If Octavio Dotel struggles again or winds up being traded, it appears Meek will become the favorite for saves in Pittsburgh. (SportsBuff.com)

4/30/2010 10:52:00 AM
Description: Meek picked up his first career save against the Dodgers on Thursday night.
Insight: If Octavio Dotel continues to struggle, Meek could become the Pirates' closer. He has a 0.60 ERA so far this season over 15 innings. (SportsBuff.com)

4/14/2010 12:10:00 PM
Description: Meek got his first win of the season on Tuesday night against the Giants, as he struck out three in two innings of work.
Insight: Meek threw 23 of his 29 of his pitches for strikes. (SportsBuff.com)

Cold7/26/2009 8:49:00 AM
Description: Meek got rocked for the second straight time. He allowed four runs in 1.2 innings against the Diamondbacks.
Insight: Arizona apparently has Meek's number. They have scored six runs off him in this series. He hasn't allowed more than three runs to any other team. (SportsBuff.com)

Hot7/22/2009 1:14:00 PM
Description: Meek submitted his first two-inning performance since June 23. He struck out three Brewers and did not allow a run.
Insight: Meek has only allowed one run in nine appearances this month. He also has not walked a batter in his last five appearances. While he has mainly been used as a mop up type reliever, his 2.41 ERA and 31 K's in 37.1 innings could be useful. (SportsBuff.com)
