Jays avoid arbitration with Happ, Bonifacio

Toronto, ON (Sports Network) - The Toronto Blue Jays have avoided salary arbitration with pitcher J.A. Happ and outfielder Emilio Bonifacio, signing each to one-year contracts.

Happ inked a deal worth $3.7 million, while Bonifacio agreed to a $2.6 million pact for 2013.

Acquired from Houston last July prior to the trade deadline, Happ was 10-11 with a 4.79 ERA in 28 games, including 24 starts, for the Astros and Blue Jays. The 30-year-old lefty owns a career record of 35-35 with a 4.19 ERA in six seasons with Philadelphia, Houston and Toronto.

Bonifacio joined the Blue Jays in the offseason as part of the blockbuster deal with the Marlins. He batted .258 with 30 stolen bases in 64 games for Miami last season.

In 476 career games with Arizona, Washington and Miami, the 27-year-old Dominican native is a career .267 hitter with seven homers and 110 stolen bases.
