NOTES:
The Web.com Tour travels to Kansas this week for the Midwest Classic. Three of
the top five players on the money list are in the field - Luke List (3), Paul
Haley II (4) and Andres Gonzales (5). List currently trails money leader Casey
Wittenberg by more than $30,000 for the top spot.
James Nitties will attempt to become the first player in Web.com Tour history
to successfully defend his title. Nitties has struggled in 2012, only posting
one top 10 finish at the Price Cutter Charity Championship last week. He is
currently 108th on the money list.
The event will be held at Nicklaus Golf Club at LionsGate in Overland Park.
The par-71 course, designed by golf legend Jack Nicklaus, opened in 2001.
Nicklaus Golf Club hosted the Champions Tour in 2005 and 2006. Dana Quigley
won the Bayer Advantage Classic in 2005 and also captured the event the next
year when it was known as the Greater Kansas City Classic. Nicklaus played his
final competitive event on the Champions Tour at the Bayer Advantage Classic
in 2005, posting scores of 73-73 to tie for 64th.
Last year, Nitties fired rounds of 65-63-65-65 to win by five strokes over
Jonas Blixt and Nick Flanagan. Nitties, who won for the first time on the
Web.com Tour, ended at 26-under-par 258. The Australian smashed Michael Sim's
tournament scoring record of 264 from 2009.
In 2009, Sim closed with a 4-under 67 to win for the third time that year,
which earned him a promotion to the PGA Tour. He completed the event at 20-
under-par 264 and became the ninth player to earn the in-season promotion to
the PGA Tour. Sim also shattered the tour's single season money record. The
$112,000 he collected for the win boosted his season total to $527,079 and he
would go on to finish the season with $644,143. Troy Matteson set the old mark
of $495,009 in 2005.
The Web.com Tour returns next week for the News Sentinel Open in Knoxville,
Tennessee, where Kirk Triplett captured the title in 2011.
