It`s the PGA Tour`s version of March Madness in February. This is the only
match-play event on the PGA Tour schedule, and pits the top-64 ranked players
in the world rankings following last week`s Northern Trust Open at Riviera.
Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson both skipped this week. Steve Stricker is in
the field and will be the No. 1 overall seed. He won this title in 2001. Last
year, Geoff Ogilvy won his second WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship when
he beat Paul Casey in the final. This event starts Wednesday with the first
round, followed by the second round on Thursday and the third round on
Friday. Both the quarterfinals and semifinals are scheduled for Saturday,
with a 36-hole final and 18-hole consolation match on tap for Sunday. The
Golf Channel has the first three rounds and early coverage on both Saturday
and Sunday. CBS takes over the important stuff over the weekend. Next week on
the PGA Tour is the Phoenix Open, won last year by Kenny Perry. The European
Tour takes off a week and during the first week of March it will be the
Malaysian Open, which Anthony Kang captured in 2009.
