GAME NOTES: Tied for second place in the Big West Conference standings after six games, the Hawaii Rainbow Warriors try to keep up the pace on Saturday night as they host the UC Davis Aggies at the Stan Sheriff Center in Honolulu.

Hawaii, which has yet to win this season on the mainland, was at home on Thursday night against Pacific as well and was able to pull out a 60-52 victory versus the Tigers. The win snapped a two-game slide and was the fourth in six tries in Big West action, which has the Warriors tied with UC Irvine behind only Long Beach State in the standings at this point.

As for the Aggies, currently tied with UC Santa Barbara for the seventh spot in the standings, they too are coming off a victory two nights ago thanks to a 74-71 triumph over Cal State Northridge at the Matadome. It was the second win in the last three outings overall for the team and just the second in eight true road tests in 2012-13 as well.

This is just the third meeting all-time between these two programs, with Hawaii winning the first two.

Trailing by two points with seven minutes left to play, a 3-pointer by Josh Ritchart put the Aggies ahead for good as they eventually held on for the three-point road win. Ritchart finished with just eight points, instead leaving most of the work to Paolo Mancasola who knocked down 6-of-7 from the floor and both of his attempts beyond the arc for his 18 points. Corey Hawkins contributed 17 points, six rebounds, five assists and four steals, followed by J.T. Adenrele and Ryan Sypkens with 13 points apiece, the former also clearing a team-best nine boards. Playing more than 33 minutes per game, it only makes sense that Hawkins is the leading scorer for the Aggies with his 17.9 ppg, but while he has been a master at the free-throw line (.905), his mere 25.4 percent effort beyond the arc is extremely lacking. Sypkens checks in with another 14.2 ppg and it is he who has the touch from behind the 3-point line (58-of-120) these days.

In a game that featured eight ties and 15 lead changes, the Rainbow Warriors happened to be the team surging at just the right time on Thursday night as they picked up the win over Pacific at home. Vander Joaquim, who became the latest Hawaii player to reach 1,000 points for his career, finished with 16 and nine boards, the only starter in double figures. Ozren Pavlovic and Hauns Brereton accounted for 13 and 11 points, respectively, while Isaac Fotu cleared 11 rebounds as the team recorded a 42-38 advantage on the glass in order to offset 23 turnovers. Joaquim, the 15th player in program history to score at least 1,000 points for the Warriors, is now tied with Christian Standhardinger for the team lead in that department this season at 14.4 ppg. Between the pair they are also pulling down 16.0 rpg and when you through Fotu (10.1 ppg) into the mix with his 7.3 rpg you have one of the top rebounding trios in the country at this point in the season.

As long as the Rainbow Warriors cut down on their turnovers from Thursday and are again heavily active on the glass at both ends of the floor, UC Davis probably doesn't stand much of a chance.

Sports Network Predicted Outcome: Hawaii 71, UC Davis 64
