GAME NOTES: The Virginia Cavaliers look to continue their defensive excellence as they visit McCamish Pavilion for an Atlantic Coast Conference tilt with the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets.

The Cavaliers are 5-0 in their last five meetings against the Yellow Jackets and 34-38 all-time against Georgia Tech, including an 11-22 away mark. Virginia has won its last four games vs. Georgia Tech in Atlanta, including a 70-38 decision at Phillips Arena in the only meeting between the teams last season.

Tony Bennett's Cavaliers collected their fourth win in a row with a hard- fought 58-55 victory over nationally-ranked NC State last Wednesday. The decision pushed Virginia to 15-5 overall, including a 5-2 mark in ACC action. It will try to carry on that momentum on Sunday on the road, where it is only 2-3 on the season. The Cavaliers have held their first seven ACC foes under 60 point-mark for the first time in ACC history and rank in the top 10 nationally in eight different defensive categories, including their third-best scoring defense of 51.2 points per game. Offensively Virginia is averaging 62.6 points per game, shooting 46 percent from the field and 38 percent from 3-point land.

Still, Virginia has a formidable inside/outside game in the form of guard Joe Harris and forward Akil Mitchell. Harris leads the team in scoring at 15.2 ppg and is shooting .459 from behind the arc (45-of-98). Mitchell nets 12.4 ppg and ranks among the ACC's best in rebounding (third in the conference at 9.0 rpg). Harris scored a game-high 22 points and Mitchell recorded a double- double with 14 points and 12 rebounds in the Cavaliers' victory over the Wolfpack.

Brian Gregory's Yellow Jackets overcame an 11-point second-half deficit in their matchup with Clemson on Tuesday, but the Tigers managed to steal the lead back at the charity stripe in the closing seconds to defeat Georgia Tech, 63-60. Georgia Tech came into ACC action with just two losses to California and Illinois, but it has dropped six of seven of its games in conference play with the only victory coming by 20 points over the Wake Forest Demon Deacons. The Yellow Jackets are one of the toughest defensive team in the nation, allowing a mere 59.7 ppg. Offensively, they are 10th in the 12-team league at 65.5 ppg.

Georgia Tech and Clemson appeared to be very evenly matched when the two squared off last Tuesday as the Yellow Jackets went 23-of-54 from the field and the Tigers converted 26-of-57 of their field goal tries. Robert Carter Jr. contributed just three points one game after reaching a career-high 20 points. Daniel Miller paced the team with 16 points, while Kammeon Holsey chipped in 14 points off the bench. Marcus Georges-Hunt provided 11 points in the Yellow Jackets' loss. Georges-Hunt and Carter are both producing just over 10 ppg, while Mfon Udofia and Holsey add 9.4 points per game apiece. Carter also paces the team on the glass with 6.7 boards per tilt.

The Yellow Jackets appear to be a weak offensive unit against standard defenses. Virginia's elite ability of shutting down its opponents will be on display as Georgia Tech struggles to produce points. Despite being on the road, the Cavaliers should be able to extend their winning streak.

Sports Network Predicted Outcome: Virginia 63, Georgia Tech 55
