NCAA Game Summary - Virginia at Clemson
(Saturday, January 12)
Final Score: Clemson 59, Virginia 44
Clemson, SC (Sports Network) - Milton Jennings tallied 21 points and 11 rebounds, as the Clemson Tigers notched a 59-44 victory over the Virginia Cavaliers in Atlantic Coast Conference play from Littlejohn Coliseum.
Jennings knocked down 5-of-8 3-pointers, while Devin Booker finished with 15 points and nine rebounds to help the Tigers (9-6, 1-2 ACC) notch their first conference victory of the season.
Joe Harris paced Virginia (11-5, 1-2) with 14 points, although he was the only double-digit scorer for the Cavaliers, who shot just 35.4 percent as a team.
As expected, scoring was at a snail's pace between two of the ACC's stingiest defensive squads. The teams combined for only 16 field goals in the first half, as Clemson grabbed a 24-20 halftime advantage.
In the second half, the Tigers remained deliberate but were much more efficient with their offensive possessions, as they shot 10-of-13 from the floor (.769) and hit 5-of-6 threes to pull away. Defensively, Clemson held the Cavs to 8-of-26 shooting (.308) over the final 20 minutes.
The Tigers enjoyed a 29-23 rebounding advantage despite grabbing only four offensive boards for the game. They also held a key 19-5 scoring edge at the foul line.
