The Seawolves went on a 9-1 run early in the second half to take a 39-36 lead with 16:03 to play, but the Pirates took control again and held a 53-46 advantage mid-way through the stanza. Seton Hall kept the lead down the stretch, but Stony Brook got the deficit to within two, 63-61, with 19 seconds left. A Dougher three-pointer in the final seconds was off the mark for the Seawolves. Brenton caught the rebound and put up a tip-in attempt as the buzzer sounded, but the ball rimmed out and Seton Hall earned the victory.

Seton Hall will take on Massachusetts in the second round, which defeated Mississippi State in double overtime in its first round matchup.
