Huntington, WV (Sports Network) - Dennis Tinnon posted a game-high 22 points and grabbed nine rebounds, leading five players in double figures, as the Marshall Thundering Herd defeated the Southern Miss Golden Eagles, 79-75, in a Conference USA regular-season finale at the Cam Henderson Center.
DeAndre Kane added 17 points in the win for Marshall (18-12, 9-7 C-USA), while the duo of Damier Pitts and Shaquille Johnson netted 13 points apiece. Dago Pena got into the mix as well, logging 10 points for the Thundering Herd.
Jonathan Mills scored 17 points to pace Southern Miss (24-7, 11-5), while Darnell Dodson and Maurice Bolden logged 13 points apiece. LaShay Page finished with 11 points to go with seven boards in a losing effort.
The Golden Eagles were kept in check to the tune of 36.7 percent from the field during the first period of play, opening a 36-29 halftime lead for Marshall.
The Thundering Herd then converted 19-of-26 at the foul line over the final 20 minutes to earn a four-point win.
The Golden Eagles forced a game-high 11 miscues during the meeting, but were beaten in the battle on the boards by a 44-36 margin.
