Description: New Orleans quarterback Drew Brees will get his "offensive genius" back as head coach and play caller Sean Payton has been reinstated by the commissioner.
Insight: Brees had a pretty good season without Payton even if the team didn't. In the five previous seasons with Payton calling the plays the team averaged 28.5 ppg, 4,686 yards passing and 1,762 yards rushing. In 2012-13 they were third in the league in scoring at 28.8 ppg with 4,997 yards passing and 1,577 on the ground. There may not be any boost offensively for Brees when Payton returns to the sidelines.

Description: New Orleans quarterback Drew Brees and Dallas QB Tony Romo tied for the league-lead in interceptions this season with 19 each.
Insight: Brees was able to offset the high interception total by throwing a league-leading 43 touchdown passes. Brees also led the NFL in yardage for the second straight year. His 5,177 yards passing are the third-most ever in a single season.

12/30/2012 5:02:00 PM
Description: Saints quarterback Drew Brees completed 29-of-43 for 396 yards and four touchdowns Sunday against the Panthers.
Insight: Brees reached 5,000 yards for the second consecutive season and third time in his career and 40 touchdowns for the second straight season with Sunday's effort. He had a touchdown-to-interception ratio of 11-1 over the final three games.

12/23/2012 5:03:00 PM
Description: Saints quarterback Drew Brees hasn't turned the ball over while getting the ball in the end zone seven times over his past two games. Brees threw for 446 and three touchdowns Sunday in a win over Dallas.
Insight: Brees had a TD-INT ratio of 1-7 in Week 13-14, including zero touchdowns and five picks in Week 13 against Atlanta, but he has rallied in his last two games. Brees is 219 yards and one touchdown away from his second straight season with 5,000 yards and 40 passing touchdowns.

12/16/2012 6:37:00 PM
Description: Saints quarterback Drew Brees broke out of a slump by throwing four touchdown passes Sunday in a blowout win against Tampa Bay.
Insight: Now that's more like it. Brees had been picked off nine times in his previous three games but he didn't turn the ball over once on Sunday. He'll try and keep the momentum going next week against Dallas.

11/25/2012 7:48:00 PM
Description: New Orleans QB Drew Brees tossed three touchdowns for the third straight game and the eighth time this season Sunday against the 49ers but he also threw two picks for TDs and failed to reach 300 yards for the fifth straight game.
Insight: Brees threw for 325 yards or more in five of the first six games so his low yardage as of late is a bit of a surprise. Still, the Saints quarterback has been a reliable fantasy arm, throwing 13 touchdowns in his last five games.

Hot10/21/2012 7:21:00 PM
Description: New Orleans QB Drew Brees produced a stunning fantasy day on Sunday, throwing for 377 yards and four TDs in a win over Tampa Bay.
Insight: Brees accomplished almost all of these statistics in the first half when he threw for 313 yards and four scores. Regardless, it's his third straight 300-yard week and over his last four games, the NFL's single-season passing yards leader has compiled an unbelievable 14 touchdown passes to just two interceptions. Simply put, Brees is the most dangerous fantasy player on the planet right now.

10/8/2012 9:37:00 AM
Description: Saints quarterback Drew Brees threw four touchdown passes Sunday night against the Chargers and in the process set a new record for most consecutive games with at least one TD pass. Brees has thrown at least one scoring strike in 48 straight games, breaking a tie with Johnny Unitas.
Insight: Brees is only completing 58.9 percent of his passes this season after setting an NFL record with a 71.2 completion percentage last season, but he has still been one of fantasy's most prolific quarterbacks. Through five games, Brees has 1,720 yards, which puts him on pace to best last season's NFL-record 5,476 yards passing.

9/30/2012 7:59:00 PM
Description: New Orleans QB Drew Brees threw for 446 yards on 35-of-54 efficiency with three touchdown passes Sunday against the Packers.
Insight: Brees wasn't picked for the first time this season. The QB has been shaky at times but he is still posting elite fantasy QB numbers, throwing for 337.5 yards per game and 10 TDs.

9/21/2012 2:22:00 PM
Description: New Orleans QB Drew Brees is dealing with an ankle injury and is listed as probable for Sunday's game with Kansas City.
Insight: There has never been any question that Brees would play this week. The question is when he will start improving on an ugly 54.5 completion percentage rate.

Cold9/16/2012 5:41:00 PM
Description: New Orleans QB Drew Brees surpassed 300 yards passing for the second week in a row but he also chucked a pair of interceptions as the Saints fell to the Panthers 35-27 on Sunday.
Insight: Brees has now thrown four picks in his last two games and carries a completion percentage of 54.5 for the season. Clearly Sean Payton's absence is having an effect on the 12-year veteran.

9/9/2012 5:14:00 PM
Description: New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees salvaged a lousy day with two fourth-quarter touchdown passes.
Insight: Brees finished with 339 yards on 52 passing attempts, three touchdowns and two picks. He completed just 46.2 percent of his passes.

7/13/2012 1:47:00 PM
Description: New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees won't be missing any camp time. He has agreed to a five-year, $100-million deal to keep him in gold and black.
Insight: Brees has hit the 5,000-yard mark in two of his last four seasons and he threw for at least 300 yards in 13 of 16 regular season games last year. He's pure fantasy gold.

7/10/2012 7:39:00 PM
Description: Unsigned franchise player Drew Brees (QB, New Orleans) won't report to training camp without a long-term contract, according to Chris Mortensen of ESPN.com.
Insight: While we'd like to see Brees and the Saints come to an agreement before Monday's 4 p.m. ET deadline, all that really matters is that the quarterback is ready to play come Week 1.

5/19/2012 12:58:00 PM
Description: New Orleans quarterback Drew Brees could become a problem if not signed by July 16, but both GM Mickey Loomis and most recently owner Tom Benson has assured fans that the team and Brees will get a deal done.
Insight: Given all the upheavel to the New Orleans franchise this off-season, the Saints would be wise to get the contract with Brees done as quickly as possible. Fantasy owners should have no fear, however, that Brees with play in the "Cresent City" this year and play well. He's a very safe pick in 2012 and should approach 5,000 yards passing once again.

9/9/2011 8:45:00 AM
Description: Drew Brees completed 32-of-49 passes for 419 yards and three touchdowns in the Saints' season opening loss to the Packers Thursday.
Insight: He was a bit shaky at first, suffering from dropped passes and constant pressure, but took advantage of the team being down. Brees also did a great job of spreading the ball around and not focusing in on target, which allowed Graham, Coltson, Meachem and Henderson to have solid performances. Not sure if we'd expect more 400 yard performances, but this performance was more due to the Saints playing from behind, but his fantasy owners will take it. Brees draws the Bears next week, but don't think twice about starting him.

2/23/2011 12:03:00 AM
Description: NFL.com reports that coach Sean Payton says the left knee injury on which Brees played was a low-grade MCL sprain, as opposed to the previously reported MCL tear.
Insight: The specifics here hardly matter. The point is that Brees played through a decently significant knee injury for about a third of the year and was still pretty good. The fact that a few more QBs outscored him in fantasy only means that you'll be able to draft him at better value in 2011. (RapidDraft.com)

2/1/2011 3:03:00 PM
Description: New Orleans.com reports Saints' fullback Heath Evans characterized Brees' (left knee) knee injury as a torn MCL and he played through it for six weeks.
Insight: This may be partially to blame for Brees' high interception total in 2010, but he will again be a top tier fantasy QB heading into 2011. (RapidDraft.com)

2/1/2011 1:28:00 PM
Description: According to Saints FB Heath Evans, QB Drew Brees played through a torn left MCL for six weeks during the 2010 season. SOURCE: NEWORLEANS.COM
Insight: Brees had six double-digit interception games for a career-high 22 during the regular season. Much of his mistakes can probably be blamed on the injury, which was diagnosed as a "low-grade" MCL sprain. Having suffered the injury in Week Three, Brees committed 12 of his 24 total turnovers in that six-week span.

1/27/2011 10:32:00 AM
Description: Saints GM Mickey Loomis said QB Drew Brees will get a new contract extension, but isn't sure when a deal will get done. SOURCE: FOX SPORTS
Insight: "It's pretty clear that we're going to want to have Drew under contract for the long term. I know that will happen at some point. He knows that will happen at some point." The CBA will dictate when teams can re-sign their impending free agents this offseason, or sign players long term. Luckily, Brees still has one more year left on his current contract.
