Description: Detroit Lions running back Kevin Smith is a healthy scratch for Week 6 against Philadelphia.
Insight: After being the lead back over the first two weeks, Smith didn't see a carry in either of the next two games. It's obvious he's not part of the Lions future plans and should be let go for a more viable fantasy option.

9/21/2012 2:55:00 PM
Description: Detroit Lions running back Kevin Smith will have additional competition in the Lions backfield this week with the return of Mikel Leshoure (suspension/Achilles).
Insight: Smith received most of the reps with the first team this week and will certainly be the starter, but fantasy owners should pay attention to how the Lions use Leshoure and re-evaluate Smith's value after the game.

9/9/2012 5:29:00 PM
Description: Detroit Lions running back Kevin Smith scored two touchdowns and had 91 total yards on 17 touches Sunday against the Rams.
Insight: No other Lions player received more than one carry. Smith will be a solid RB2 for several weeks, but the presence of Mikel Leshoure and eventually Jahvid Best will cloud this backfield rotation since Detroit throws the ball upwards of 40 times a game.

9/3/2012 12:52:00 PM
Description: Detroit Lions running back Kevin Smith is questionable for Sunday's game against St. Louis due to an ankle injury.
Insight: With Jahvid Best on the shelf and Mikel Leshoure suspended, Smith is the Lions' best option, but the team will likely use Keiland Williams as well.

8/28/2012 4:09:00 PM
Description: According to Jason La Canfora of CBSSports.com, other teams are saying that the Detroit Lions are making calls in search of a running back.
Insight: With Jahvid Best on the shelf for at least six games, the Lions are left with a hodgepodge of mediocre running backs that includes Kevin Smith and Mikel Leshoure. Neither Smith nor Leshoure (when he returns from a two-game suspension) should be started in fantasy leagues, even if Detroit doesn't acquire another player.

8/26/2012 10:28:00 AM
Description: The ankle injury Lions halfback Kevin Smith suffered in Saturday's preseason game against Oakland doesn't appear to be serious. Smith told reporters after the game that X-rays on his injured ankle came back negative. He also claims that he does not have a high ankle sprain.
Insight: Smith is likely to see most of the carries for Detroit this year with starter Jahvid Best on the shelf (concussion), though he's probably not going to be much of a factor in fantasy as the Lions hardly ever run the football.

8/7/2012 7:31:00 PM
Description: Detroit running back Kevin Smith is listed as the starting running back on the team's first depth chart, according to MLive.com.
Insight: Jahvid Best still hasn't been cleared to practice or play and and Mikel Leshoure will miss the team's first two games for violating the league's substance abuse policy. While Leshoure will likely take the most carries once he returns from his suspension, Smith is worth a late-round flier.

7/28/2012 11:49:00 AM
Description: Detroit running back Kevin Smith could end up being the Lions Opening Day starter.
Insight: Jahvid Best still hasn't been cleared to practice or play and and Mikel Leshoure will miss the team's first two games for violating the league's substance abuse policy. Smith started out as an "insurance policy" signing by the Lions, but could end up with significant fantasy value. With a fantasyfootballcalculator ADP of 146.8, he's a small investment which could have a huge upside.

3/27/2012 1:47:00 PM
Description: Kevin Smith has signed a one-year deal with the Detroit Lions.
Insight: Smith is an insurance policy at best for fantasy owners. Jahvid Best and Mikel Leshoure should handle all the rushing duties with Smith as the Lions No. 3 back. Of course, with Best's injury history and Leshoure working his way back from an Achilles problem, Smith might have a small amount of fantasy value.

Description: Kevin Smith (ankle) was participating in Lions practice Thursday. Source: Dave Birkett via Twitter
Insight: We'll see what capacity he participated in, but it's encouraging for his availability for this Sunday, but frustrating for those that scooped up Maurice Morris.

Description: Kevin Smith (ankle) did not participate in position drills Wednesday. Source: Dave Birkett via Twitter
Insight: It was reported that he didn't look comfortable walking around and stretching, so left practice to go and rehab. Smith is doubtful this week and Maurice Morris is looking like he'll draw the start against the high octane Saints.

Description: Kevin Smith sustained a high-ankle sprain in the first half of Thursday's game against the Packers, according to FOX's Jimmy Johnson. Source: Adam Caplan via Twitter
Insight: For this week's hottest waiver wire pickup, the glory was short-lived. He was on his way to another solid game before going down with the ankle injury. As quickly as Maurice Morris was left for dead on the wire, he'll become another darling this week.

Description: Kevin Smith was taking the first-team reps at Lions practice Monday. Source: Chris McCosky via Twitter
Insight: Yeah, that'll happen when you beast out a game like that. Granted it was the Panthers, but he was clearly the best back on the field and is much better than Maurice Morris. Too bad he won't face the Panthers every week, but the Lions passing game should open the run up for him, plus he's good out of the backfield.

Description: Lions re-signed RB Kevin Smith. Source: ProFootbll Talk
Insight: This isn't a good sign for Jahvid Best's concussion recovery, and Smith himself dealt with multiple knee injuries during his time in Detroit. He'll be third on the depth chart behind Maurice Morris and Keiland Williams.

3/4/2011 11:09:00 AM
Description: With RB Kevin Smith a free agent, the Lions could target a "big back" late in this year's draft. SOURCE: TWITTER
Insight: Maurice Morris is currently behind Jahvid Best on the depth chart, but that won't last long. We're still surprised Smith wasn't tendered after the team had claimed they were very high on him many times. A big, young back would be a perfect compliment to the shifty Best.

3/3/2011 5:57:00 PM
Description: In a surprising move, the Lions have failed to extend a tender to potential restricted free agent RB Kevin Smith. SOURCE: TWITTER
Insight: Everything we had read and heard made it sound like the Lions had Smith in there future plans all along, but it looks like those plans may have changed. Injured the last two years, Smith understands the move was a "business decision," but we are still surprised. Maybe the Lions believe they can re-sign Smith at a discount.

Description: The Lions reportedly still "really like" restricted free agent RB Kevin Smith. SOURCE: MLIVE.COM
Insight: Now a full year removed from knee surgery, Smith should be much better than he was in 2010. However, he will be, at best, Jahvid Best's backup in 2011. He won't have much fantasy value unless Best goes down.

1/19/2011 12:35:00 PM
Description: Lions RB Kevin Smith refuted a report that said he wants to play for the Dolphins. SOURCE: DETROIT NEWS
Insight: Dolphins beat writer Omar Kelly tweeted that Smith said "come get me" when referring to his interest in playing for Miami. A restricted free agent, we had doubts that Miami would want to waste a pick on an injury-prone player. The Lions still have faith in Smith, so expect him to be Jahvid Best's primary backup in 2011.

Description: Set to hit restricted free agency, Lions RB Kevin Smith said he wants to play for the Dolphins. SOURCE: TWITTER
Insight: The Dolphins are already expected to let go of one injury-prone running back in Ronnie Brown. We doubt they would have interest in another, despite Smith being five years younger. We expect him to stay in Detroit.

Description: Lions RB Kevin Smith (thumb) has been placed on injured reserve. SOURCE: TWITTER
Insight: Maurice Morris is next in line for backup duties behind Jahvid Best, but he will likely share some snaps with Aaron Brown. Neither are fantasy options going forward.
