Vikings reach deal with CB Sherels

Eden Prairie, MN (SportsNetwork.com) - The Minnesota Vikings announced Friday that the team has re-signed cornerback/return man Marcus Sherels to an undisclosed contract.

Sherels, the Vikings' primary punt returner the last three seasons, was eligible for restricted free agency.

The University of Minnesota product ranked second in the NFL by averaging a club-record 15.2 yards on 22 punt returns last season, highlighted by an 86- yard touchdown against the New York Giants on Oct. 21. Sherels also took a punt back 77 yards for a score during the 2012 campaign, and has averaged 10.3 yards on 87 career returns.

Sherels saw an increased role on defense as well in 2013, starting three games and recording 46 tackles, one interception and six passes defensed in 16 contests.
