NHL Game Summary - Los Angeles at Edmonton
(Tuesday, February 19th)
Final Score: Los Angeles 3, Edmonton 1
Edmonton, AB (Sports Network) - Jeff Carter scored the game winner with 49.4
seconds to play as the Los Angeles Kings took a 3-1 win over the Edmonton
Oilers on Tuesday.
Colin Fraser also had a goal while Jarret Stoll sealed the win with an empty-
netter for the Kings, who have won three of their last four. Jonathan Quick
posted 23 saves in the victory.
"They have a really good team over there and they limited the chances we had,"
said Los Angeles defenseman Drew Doughty. "But still, we need to bear down
more on our chances and get more pucks on the net."
Sam Gagner had the lone goal of the game for the Oilers, who have dropped
seven of their last nine games. Nikolai Khabibulin gave up two goals on 37
shots in the loss.
"Kind of an unfortunate break at the end of the game there," said Gagner. "But
if we were getting pucks deep and forechecking harder like we did the other
night, things like that don't happen."
With time winding down in regulation, Trevor Lewis stole the puck in the
neutral zone and skated the other way. He pulled up at the top of the left
circle and let loose with a shot that knicked off of Carter on the way in.
Edmonton got Khabibulin out of the net quickly for an extra attacker, but
Stoll put it home to seal the victory.
Neither team got on the board in the first period, but Los Angeles took a 1-0
lead at the 4:44 mark of the second period. Jordan Nolan brought the puck into
the Edmonton end down the right wing and let fly with a shot on net. After
Lewis had a whack at it, Fraser chipped it in for his first of the season.
Edmonton, though, tied the game with 3:10 to play in the second period as
Justin Schultz knocked the puck away from Carter, who had just exited the
penalty box.
The Oilers were still on the power play and Taylor Hall took it into the L.A.
end down the left wing and left a drop pass at the point for Gagner, who
buried a wrister into the net for his fifth goal of the season.
