Description: According to the Florida Times Union, new Jaguars offensive coordinator Bob Bratkowski said tight end Marcedes Lewis needs to be a more frequent target for second-year QB Blaine Gabbert.
Insight: Lewis was the Jaguars' leading receiver with a paltry 460 yards last season and he didn't catch a touchdown pass a year after grabbing 10. Lewis figures to have a better season in new coach Mike Mularkey's offensive scheme since Mularky himself was a tight end, but we don't expect the Jaguars to put up enough points to justify drafting the 6-foot-6 tight end.

Description: According to Jay Glazer of FOX Sports, Marcedes Lewis (calf, doubtful) will not play Sunday against the Jets. Source: Jay Glazer via Twitter
Insight: Lewis put in a practice Friday but not a full one, so he'll be hoping for a week 3 return. Zach Miller will get the start but shouldn't warrant consideration in fantasy leagues.

Description: Marcedes Lewis (calf) missed Jaguars practice Wednesday. Source: Tania Ganguli via Twitter
Insight: This shouldn't be anything that lasts long-term, but as of now there's a concern that he'll be unavailable for week 2. As of now, look to other options at TE for this week.

Description: NFL Network had Jaguars tight end Marcedes Lewis in studio yesterday and became the latest Jaguars player to express support for veteran quarterback David Garrard. SOURCE: JACKSONVILLE.COM
Insight: "Dave is one of those guys that when his back is against the wall, he's coming out fighting," Lewis said. "...Dave is going to accept the competition, take Blaine [Gabbert] under his wing and continue to be our quarterback and do exactly what he's been doing since I've been here. And that's continue to be a leader on and off the field, in the community and doing his thing."

Description: As expected, Lewis received the Jaguars' franchise tag on Wednesday.
Insight: The NFLPA apparently continues to say the tags are invalid under the current labor situation, but there doesn't seem any reason to believe Lewis will play anywhere else in 2011. (RapidDraft.com)

Description: As expected, the Jaguars have franchised TE Marcedes Lewis. SOURCE: TWITTER
Insight: Once he signs his tender, Lewis will make $7 million in 2011. The Jags are using the tag so long-term talks can continue.

Description: If the Jaguars and TE Marcedes Lewis don't reach a long-term deal by the March 4th deadline, Lewis is expected to be franchised. SOURCE: FLORIDA TIMES-UNION
Insight: It was rumored weeks ago, but this is the first confirmed report that Lewis will definitely get the tag. After having a breakout season in 2010, Lewis' $7.3 million salary that the tag would pay for tight ends is worth it. Lewis has already admitted he would rather stay a Jaguar than test the market, so he won't be disappointed. He has cracked TE1 status for 2011.

2/23/2011 11:02:00 AM
Description: Multiple sources report that the Jaguars are expected to apply the franchise tag to Lewis, barring a turnaround in negotiations on a long-term deal.
Insight: Lewis broke through statistically in 2010 but has long been viewed as a valuable member of the offense by the Jaguars. Look for him to stick around Jacksonville one way or the other. (RapidDraft.com)

Description: The Jaguars are expected to use the franchise tag on TE Marcedes Lewis. SOURCE: FLORIDA TIMES UNION
Insight: The league had originally announced that teams can still use the tag, but the NFLPA recently came out and said they couldn't, so an official word has yet to be announced. The move makes sense if there is a tag after Lewis' ten touchdowns in 2010, which were three more than the total for his entire career.

1/4/2011 2:01:00 AM
Description: Lewis caught four passes for 26 yards and his 10th touchdown of the season on Sunday.
Insight: Lewis' 10 touchdowns quintuple his previous best of two, which he reached in each of the past three seasons. Lewis also collected 17 more catches and 192 more receiving yards than his prior bests. (RapidDraft.com)

12/27/2010 12:01:00 AM
Description: Lewis caught three passes for 37 yards in Sunday's losing effort.
Insight: It's a line similar to what Lewis has posted in plenty of weeks, though it was much closer to his high end in previous seasons. (RapidDraft.com)

12/20/2010 1:03:00 AM
Description: Lewis caught six passes for 63 yards in Sunday's loss at Indianapolis.
Insight: The six catches tied a career-high for Lewis, a total he has reached only one other time. It was also just the third time this season that he reached 60 yards. (RapidDraft.com)

12/19/2010 7:35:00 PM
Description: Jags TE Marcedes Lewis had another quietly solid day, catching six passes for 63 yards in Sunday's Week 15 loss to the Colts.
Insight: He continues to post solid numbers, but because he plays in Jacksonville and has David Garrard as his QB, fantasy owners still don't want to take him seriously. Next year, they will. He was stopped short of touchdowns on two separate occasions or it could have been a HUGE day for a TE.

12/13/2010 11:05:00 AM
Description: Lewis caught four passes for 57 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's win over Oakland.
Insight: Lewis has not gone more than two games between touchdowns all season, which has easily been the most productive of his still-young career. (RapidDraft.com)

12/9/2010 11:04:00 PM
Description: Lewis suffered a dislocated thumb in practice on Thursday but says it won't cause him to miss any time.
Insight: Lewis is having a terrific season, but he drew just nine total targets over the past two games and has caught three passes or fewer in four of his past six. Combine that with the thumb, and Lewis becomes merely a decent fantasy play. (RapidDraft.com)

11/22/2010 1:01:00 AM
Description: Lewis caught five passes for 66 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's victory over Cleveland.
Insight: Lewis continues to add to his career-best numbers and was just the latest tight end to find success against the Browns. (RapidDraft.com)

10/5/2010 1:04:00 AM
Description: Lewis scored his third touchdown of the season Sunday to set a new career best.
Insight: Lewis has looked like a guy with red-zone upside since he entered the league as a freakishly tall tight end in an offense needing options. He's finally delivering on that, even though the reception totals won't explode any time soon. (RapidDraft.com)

9/27/2010 10:03:00 AM
Description: Lewis led the team Sunday with three catches, gaining just 15 yards total.
Insight: It's not much, but Lewis at least continues to be a significant part of the passing game. He's a solid No. 2 tight end in fantasy right now. (RapidDraft.com)

9/15/2010 2:03:00 AM
Description: Lewis scored touchdowns on each of his two catches Sunday, already matching his personal best for touchdowns over a full season.
Insight: Lewis was mentioned in Jaguars camp as a potential breakout player, and this was an encouraging start. He could be a quality flex option or at least a strong backup. (RapidDraft.com)

8/29/2010 10:03:00 AM
Description: Jaguars TE Marcedes Lewis left Saturday's game with an ankle injury.
Insight: The Jaguars indicated that Lewis could have returned to the game, so this doesn't appear all that serious. Just make sure he's healthy prior to drafting him. (RapidDraft.com)
