Insight: Detwiler has been bothered by a sore back. The 27-year-old has lost four out of his last five starts (4.21 ERA over that span).

Description: Nationals lefthander Ross Detwiler will miss his start Monday against the Giants. He's out with a lower back injury. SOURCE: Bill Ladson, MLB.com
Insight: Detwiler could be headed for the DL. He's 2-4 with a 2.76 ERA in eight starts this season.

Description: Nationals manager Davey Johnson doesn't believe that Ross Detwiler will make his start Monday against San Francisco. SOURCE: Adam Kilgore, Washington Post
Insight: Detwiler (2-4, 2.76 ERA) hurt his back Wednesday night in Los Angeles. Craig Stammen (2-1, 2.25) could be called upon to make a spot start if Detwiler can't go on Monday.

5/16/2013 1:33:00 PM
Description: Washington lefty Ross Detwiler left his start Wednesday with lower back spasms and is questionable to take his next turn, according to Adam Kilgore of the Washington Post.
Insight: Detwiler only threw three innings Wednesday before exiting. He has a 2.76 ERA despite allowing 56 hits in 45 2/3 innings. Chris Young has allowed 41 hits and 23 earned runs in 26 innings with Triple-A Syracuse this season, so even if he does take Detwiler's next start, he shouldn't be considered by fantasy owners.

5/10/2013 9:51:00 PM
Description: Washington lefty Ross Detwiler snapped a three-start losing streak Friday night by going 6 2/3 innings and allowing two runs.
Insight: Detwiler has been unlucky with a .324 BABIP, but he has countered by posting a 1.69 BB/9, allowing just three homers in 42 2/3 innings, and stranding 82.4 percent of baserunners.

Hot4/17/2013 10:10:00 PM
Description: Washington lefty Ross Detwiler picked up his first win of the season by limiting Miami to one run on seven hits in seven innings Wednesday night.
Insight: Detwiler (0.90 ERA, 1.00 WHIP) gave up two doubles and five singles, didn't walk a batter and struck out five. He has walked just three batters in 20 innings this season.

4/6/2013 5:58:00 PM
Description: Washington lefty Ross Detwiler didn't factor in the decision Saturday due to Rafael Soriano's blown save but he did hold the Reds to one unearned run on six hits in six innings in his 2013 debut.
Insight: Detwiler had a 3.40 ERA and 1.22 WHIP in 164 1/3 innings last season. There could be some regression since he had a .263 BABIP and doesn't strike many people out, but he should still be a decent fantasy starter, even in mixed leagues.

9/3/2012 10:19:00 PM
Description: Washington lefthander Ross Detwiler earned his ninth win of the year Monday after throwing seven shutout innings versus the Cubs.
Insight: Detwiler is quietly having a very strong year for the Nationals. His ERA sits at a respectable 3.15 and so far lefthanders are hitting just .153 against him this season.

8/2/2012 10:02:00 PM
Description: Nationals lefthander Ross Detwiler was brilliant Thursday against the Phillies, firing seven innings for the third time in his last four starts.
Insight: Detwiler improved to 6-4 with a 3.02 ERA by throwing seven scoreless innings of three-hit ball. The lefty has didn't last five innings his last time on the hill, but that was in Milwaukee. At the very least Detwiler has moved into must-start territory when he's throwing at Nationals Park (5-1, 2.51 ERA at home).

7/22/2012 5:46:00 PM
Description: Nationals lefthander Ross Detwiler held Atlanta to two runs (one earned) on seven hits in seven innings Sunday to improve to 5-3.
Insight: Detwiler (5-3, 3.01 ERA) couldn't get past 6 2/3 innings in any of his first 12 starts this season but he's gone seven in two straight. Give the former first-round draft pick a look in deeper leagues.

7/17/2012 9:27:00 PM
Description: Nationals lefthander Ross Detwiler had his best and longest start of the season Tuesday against the Mets, tossing seven scoreless innings in a no decision.
Insight: Detwiler (4-3, 3.15 ERA) had a solid run as a starter earlier this season, posting a 1.59 ERA through his first five turns before tapering off and losing his spot in the rotation to Chien-Ming Wang. However, Wang didn't pitch well and then went on the DL with a strained hip, so Detwiler returned to the rotation. Tuesday was the first time he's exceeded 6 2/3 innings in a start.

6/24/2012 6:16:00 PM
Description: Nationals lefthander Ross Detwiler returned to Washington's rotation Sunday against Baltimore with five shutout innings. Detwiler allowed four hits and walked two while striking out three.
Insight: Detwiler had a solid run as a starter earlier this season, going 3-3 with a 3.88 ERA in nine starts. However, he struggles to get deep into games -- his longest outing this season is 6 1/3 innings.

6/20/2012 8:26:00 PM
Description: Nationals lefthander Ross Detwiler will move back into the starting rotation following Chien-Ming Wang's demotion to the bullpen.
Insight: Detwiler (4-3, 3.34 ERA) went 3-3 with a 3.88 ERA as a starter earlier in the season. He is slated to start Sunday against the Orioles.

5/26/2012 8:45:00 PM
Description: Ross Detwiler has been demoted to the Nationals' bullpen and will be replaced in the starting rotation by Chien-Ming Wang, who was just recently activated from the disabled list.
Insight: Detwiler was 2-1 with a 1.64 ERA in April but he's followed that up with a horrendous 1-2 record and a 5.74 ERA in May. Detwiler will be a candidate to regain his role as Washington's No. 5 starter if any of the Nationals starters get injured but for now he'll probably only be used in long relief situations.

5/25/2012 11:12:00 PM
Description: Ross Detwiler allowed three runs on five hits in 4 1/3 innings against the Braves on Friday. Detwiler walked four and struck out five.
Insight: Detwiler is losing his grip on the No. 5 spot in the Nationals' rotation, especially considering Chien-Ming Wang returned to throw three solid innings of relief on Friday. Wang picked up the victory after Detwiler exited, and he may soon steal his rotation spot as well. The lefty Detwiler hasn't thrown more than 6 1/3 innings in any of his nine starts this season.

5/19/2012 11:03:00 PM
Description: Ross Detwiler gave up six runs on nine hits in five innings to drop to 3-3. Detwiler still hasn't pitched out of the sixth inning in eight starts this season.
Insight: Nationals manager Davey Johnson announced on Saturday that Chien-Ming Wang would pitch out of the bullpen when he returns from the DL instead of taking Detwiler's spot in the rotation. However, Detwiler's ERA had increased from 2.10 to 3.65 in the last two starts, so his rotation spot isn't completely safe right now.

Hot5/3/2012 10:01:00 PM
Description: Ross Detwiler won a pitcher's duel Thursday against Diamondbacks starter Ian Kennedy. Detwiler lasted 6.1 innings for the Nationals, giving up just one run and three hits. Kennedy allowed three walks and finished the night with two strikeouts.
Insight: Detwiler hasn't pitched more than six and a third innings in any of his five starts this season but his 1.59 ERA is just too good for fantasy owners to pass up.

4/20/2012 9:28:00 PM
Description: Ross Detweiler threw six shutout innings against Miami on Friday.
Insight: Detwiler has dazzled as the Nationals' No. 5 starter, giving up one earned run in 16 innings spanning three starts. However, he will likely be the one to lose his job when Chien-Ming Wang returns.

4/3/2012 7:14:00 PM
Description: Ross Detweiler has pitched his way into the Nationals' starting rotation.
Insight: Detwiler (1-1, 3.24 ERA) earned a spot in the rotation by outpitching John Lannan (1-1, 5.14) this spring. Detwiler was 4-5 with a 3.00 ERA last season, so there's an outside chance he could help your fantasy team in 2012.

7/6/2011 2:25:00 AM
Description: Nats SP Ross Detweiler allowed four hits over 5 1/3 innings with one strikeout and no walks as the Nats held off the Cubs, 3-2, Tuesday.
Insight: The Cubs were stymied the rest of the way by Todd Coffey, Sean Burnett, Tyler Clippard and Drew Storen (who recorded his 21st save) as the Nationals improved to 4-5 under Davey Johnson. Chicago committed a costly error in the first inning giving the Nats all three of their runs.
