Description: Chicago outfielder Joe Mather has been the Cubs best hitter this spring, batting .382 with three homers and 15 RBI.
Insight: Mather's spring won him a spot on the roster, but he doesn't have a starting spot in the lineup unless there is an injury to Alfonso Soriano, Marlon Byrd or David DeJesus. Until that point, his fantasy value is little to none.

3/8/2010 10:24:00 AM
Description: Mather had four RBI on Sunday.
Insight: Mather is in the mix to be a backup outfielder/corner infielder for the Cardinals, and this certainly helps his cause. (SportsBuff.com0

Description: The St. Louis Post Dispatch reports Mather may rank ahead of Allen Craig and John Jay for the last spot in the Cardinals' outfield.
Insight: Mather can also play 3B, and that flexibility may give him an edge over his competition. (SportsBuff.com)

2/17/2010 8:45:00 AM
Description: The St. Louis Post Dispatch reports that Mather is expecting to compete for the third base spot on the Cardinals.
Insight: Mather will need to pick up his play as he hit only .176 last season in Triple-A. (SportsBuff.com)

Steady3/11/2009 12:09:00 AM
Description: The AP reports that Mather is likely Opening Day third baseman.
Insight: With Troy Glaus still ailing and David Freese and Brent Wallace reassigned, the Cardinals only have so many other options. Mather hit eight homers in 133 at bats last year. (SportsBuff.com)

Steady3/7/2009 10:57:00 AM
Description: Mather has impressed Cardinal GM John Mozeliak with his play at third base, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.
Insight: Mather could increase his value for the first month of the season if he can replace Troy Glaus (shoulder surgery) at third base. Mather hit eight homer in 154 at bats for St. Louis last year, but hit just .241. (SportsBuff.com)

Steady2/14/2009 9:33:00 AM
Description: Mather will be among the players considered for the Cardinals second base opening, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.
Insight: Mather showed some nice power in his first league in the bigs last year. He hit eight homers in 133 at bats. He played all three outfield positions and both corner infield positions. A move to second might be a stretch, but would increase his fantasy value. (SportsBuff.com)

Steady1/27/2009 6:08:00 PM
Description: Mather may see time at third base while Troy Glaus recuperates from shoulder surgery.
Insight: Mather has shown power in both his minor league career and his 54-game audition with the Cardinals last year. Between AAA and the big club, he hit 25 homers in 344 at bats in 2008. If he gets playing time, he could be a nice sleeper. (SportsBuff.com)
