(Sports Network) - Young Dominican Wily Peralta can return to his winning ways
and close out a sweep on Wednesday night, when the Milwaukee Brewers visit
Wrigley Field for the finale of a four-game series with the Chicago Cubs.
Peralta, who turned 24 in May, had won two straight decisions and was unbeaten
in four starts for the Brewers before dropping an 8-3 decision at Colorado on
He lasted just 3 2/3 innings in the loss and was nicked for eight runs on
seven hits and three walks - swelling his earned run average from 4.30 to
The last loss prior to the four-game unbeaten stretch was a 7-2 loss to the
Cubs, who scored seven runs on eight hits against Peralta in five innings.
In three career starts against Chicago, he is 1-1 with a 3.44 ERA.
For the Cubs, righty Edwin Jackson faces the Brewers for the 11th time in his
225th major-league start.
He's won three of eight decisions in those 10 matchups while posting a 3.96
ERA and striking out 42 batters in 63 2/3 innings.
The 29-year-old won three straight starts between June 30 and July 11 against
Seattle, Pittsburgh and St. Louis, but dropped a 4-3 verdict at Colorado and
got a no-decision at San Francisco in his last two outings on July 21 and 26.
He's 3-5 in nine starts this season at Wrigley.
On Tuesday, Milwaukee closer Jim Henderson escaped a ninth-inning threat to
pick up his 13th save and finish off a 6-5 win in the opener of a
Jean Segura capped a four-run, come-from-behind seventh inning with a double
to help the Brewers overcome the Cubs' five-run fifth.
In the second game, Jeff Bianchi hit a two-run single in the ninth inning to
help Milwaukee sweep the twinbill with a 3-2 win.
The Brewers entered the week with a slim 123-120 lead in the all-time series
between the teams and had won five of the initial eight games played in 2013 -
including four straight between April 19 and June 25.
