Tuesday, July 17th (All times Eastern)

Texas Rangers (54-35) at Oakland Athletics (46-43), 10:05 p.m.

Probable Starting Pitchers: Texas - Roy Oswalt (2-1, 6.26) Oakland - Bartolo Colon (6-7, 3.80)

(Sports Network) - Bartolo Colon tries to extend a career's worth of success against Texas, as well as Oakland's four-game winning streak, as the Athletics open a two-game series tonight versus the Rangers.

Colon has gone 13-1 with a 2.98 earned run average in his last 15 starts against the Rangers. In 28 career starts versus them, Colon is 18-6 with a 3.61 ERA. Only three other pitches have won more games in their career against Texas: Bert Blyleven, Dennis Leonard and Jack Morris, all with 19.

The right-handed Colon faced the Rangers on June 6 and hurled eight scoreless innings in a victory, scattering five hits and a walk.

Colon is winless in two starts since coming off a disabled-list stint caused by a strained right oblique, giving up two earned runs over 14 2/3 frames. The 39-year-old hurled 8 2/3 frames versus Seattle on July 8, giving up a run on seven hits without a walk while fanning five. Oakland won 2-1 in 13 innings.

The Athletics wrapped up a three-game sweep of the Twins on Sunday with a 9-4 win. Yoenis Cespedes capped a great series with four hits, a solo homer and three RBI, while Jonny Gomes, Chris Carter and Seth Smith all added home runs.

"This is some good momentum for us and hopefully we can carry it home with us," said Gomes. "We've got some guys swinging pretty good lately and with the pitching we have we can be a dangerous team."

Jarrod Parker gave up four runs on nine hits with four strikeouts over six innings to pick up his fourth win in the past six starts.

Oakland will look for the rookie Cespedes to keep leading the offense. He went 8-for-14 with two homers and six RBI versus the Twins and is hitting .283 on the year with 11 homers and 42 RBI. The 26-year-old Cuban is 14-for-28 in eight games versus the Rangers this season.

He'll face Roy Oswalt for the first time as the Rangers right-hander makes his fifth start of the season.

The veteran has had mixed results so far, winning his Texas debut on June 22 with 6 2/3 innings of one-run ball. He then allowed 16 runs (14 earned) and 26 hits over 10 2/3 frames while splitting his next two starts before getting a no-decision versus the Twins on July 8. Oswalt was charged with a run and five hits over 5 2/3 frames, lowering his season ERA to 6.26.

The 34-year-old is 0-1 with a 5.40 ERA in two meetings with Oakland.

The Rangers won the rubber match of a three-game series versus the Mariners on Sunday by a 4-0 margin. Texas has won four of its past five and is 10-1-0 in its last 11 series, giving the club a 5 1/2-game edge over the Angels for first place in the American League West.

Matt Harrison logged his second shutout of the season in Sunday's win, tossing a five-hitter over 114 pitches.

"It feels good," Harrison said. "It's a good start for the second half for me, and I hope to continue building on that. I had a lot of trouble in the first few innings with my command, but I was able to make them put it in play. The defense kept making play after play, so I owe a lot of this game to them."

Ian Kinsler homered and Adrian Beltre drove in two runs for Texas, which is hoping to have catcher Mike Napoli back in the lineup tonight. Napoli has been out since suffering a bruised right knee on Friday. Backup catcher Yorvit Torrealba is expected to be placed on paternity leave for this series.

The Rangers and Athletics have split 10 meetings so far this season.
