National League Game Summary - Atlanta at Miami
(Monday, September 17th)
Final Score: Atlanta 7, Miami 5
Miami, FL (Sports Network) - Martin Prado went 4-for-4 with two RBI and Dan
Uggla added a three-run homer, leading the Atlanta Braves to a 7-5 triumph
over the Miami Marlins on Monday.
Jeff Baker had an RBI base hit and Jason Heyward scored a pair of runs for the
Braves, who have won four straight on the heels of a three-game skid.
Tim Hudson (15-6) allowed four runs on 10 hits over five innings to earn the
win. Craig Kimbrel stranded a runner in the ninth to earn his NL-best 37th
save of the year.
The Braves, who lead the NL wild-card race, now trail the East-leading
Washington Nationals by five games.
Gorkys Hernandez went 3-for-5, falling a homer shy of the cycle, and Bryan
Petersen knocked in a pair with a fourth-inning triple for the Marlins, who
have dropped five of seven.
Wade LeBlanc (2-5) was tagged for six runs on seven hits over four innings to
absorb the loss.
The Braves wasted no time and put up four runs in the first inning. With
runners on the corners, Prado delivered a single to right-center field to
score Heyward. Uggla followed with a home run over the left-field wall.
"I tried to go away and I left it middle," LeBlanc said of his home-run ball
to Uggla. "I made a mistake and he made me pay for it."
Atlanta padded its cushion with a pair in the fourth to go up 6-0. Uggla
walked and David Ross singled to put runners at first and second. Baker
followed with an RBI single to right-center field to plate Uggla and Ross came
across on Hudson's groundout.
But the Marlins countered with four of their own in the home half. Rob Brantly
singled to score Justin Ruggiano before Peterson's triple plated a pair.
Hernandez followed with a triple of his own to score Petersen.
"We let them back in the game a little bit," Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez
said.
Miami was able to cut its deficit to 6-5 in the seventh when Jose Reyes scored
on Carlos Lee's base hit.
The Braves added one in the eighth when Heyward scored on Prado's single to
center field.
