Kim takes early lead in Portland

Portland, OR (SportsNetwork.com) - I.K. Kim opened with a 7-under 65 on Thursday and took at 1-shot lead after one round of the Portland Classic.

Kim is a three-time winner on the LPGA Tour, but her last victory was in 2010. In 11 starts this year, she has one top-25 finish at the Swinging Skirts LPGA Classic.

Jennifer Song and Amelia Lewis are tied for second place at minus-6 at Columbia Edgewater Country Club.

Anna Nordqvist, who has two wins this year, carded a 5-under 67. She was joined in fourth place by Laura Diaz, Julieta Granada, Mina Harigae, Alison Walshe, Emma Jandel and Paula Reto.

U.S. Solheim Cup captain Juli Inkster posted a 4-under 68. Inkster stands alongside Karine Icher, Chella Choi, Jennifer Kirby, Xi Yu Lin and Jacqui Concolino in 11th place.

Kim started with birdies on the third and fifth to get on the board. After a par on the sixth, she birdied the seventh.

The 26-year-old Korean parred eight and nine to make the turn at 3-under. Kim birdied the par-5 10th and followed with a birdie on No. 11 to get within one of the lead.

Kim continued her hot play with birdies at 12 and 13 to grab the lead. She followed her run of birdies with five consecutive pars to close out her round.

"I played well in Canada, but my putting was a little disappointing. Today, I hit the ball well and made some putts," said Kim, who shared 42nd place in Canada last week.

Song, who hasn't had a top-20 finish in 15 starts this season, played the back nine first on Thursday and she birdied the 11th. Song came back with a birdie on the 14th, then parred her next three holes.

After a birdie on the 18th, Song made the turn at minus-3. She jumped into a share of second place with three birdies over her final five holes from the fifth.

"Well, I wasn't expecting to make it. I knew it was going to be a fast putt, so I just told myself to get the pace right and just get it near the proximity of the hole, and it just went in. I just lucked out," Song said of her long birdie putt on the ninth.

Lewis opened with a birdie on the first. She birdied both par-5s on the front nine, Nos. 5 and 7. Around the turn, Lewis birdied three of the first four holes to jump into second place at minus-6.

The 2009 U.S. Women's Amateur champion parred the final five holes of her opening round.

NOTES: Kim owns the first-round lead for the second time in her career ... Natalie Sheary was disqualified for signing an incorrect scorecard ... Irene Coe withdrew during the round due to a back injury.
