New Jersey wins Women's State Team title

Kettering, OH (Sports Network) - Two New Jersey players combined to shoot 3- over 149 on Thursday as the state rolled to a 3-stroke win at the USGA Women's State Team Championship.

New Jersey, which shared the second-round lead with Florida, was led by Alice Chen's 1-over 74 at NCR Country Club's South Course. Cindy Ha carded a 2-over 75 to account for New Jersey's total score.

Three players represent each state, but the lowest two scores comprise the state's total for the round.

Tara Fleming's 9-over 82 did not count for the champions. who finished the tournament at 8-over 446.

Florida tripped to a combined 6-over 152 during its final round to take second place at 11-over 449. Four-time U.S. Women's Mid-Amateur champion Meghan Stasi recorded Florida's best round of the day at 1-over 74, but Tara Joy-Connelly carded a 78 and Ericka Schneider had an 80.

Virginia finished in third at 12-over 450, a shot ahead of Arizona.

Georgia, winner of the last two Women's State Team Championships, finished in seventh place at 22-over 460.
