NCAA Game Summary - Miami-Ohio at Buffalo
(Saturday, November 3)
Final Score: Buffalo 27, Miami-Ohio 24
Buffalo, NY (Sports Network) - Patrick Clarke's 47-yard field goal as time
expired lifted the Buffalo Bulls to a 27-24 win over the Miami-Ohio RedHawks
in a Mid-American Conference thriller at UB Stadium.
Joe Licata threw for 127 yards and two touchdowns, while Branden Oliver paced
the Bulls' ground game with 199 yards and a score to help UB (2-7, 1-4 MAC)
snap a six-game slide.
Nick Harwell finished with 10 catches for 62 yards and three touchdowns for
the RedHawks (4-5, 3-2), who saw their faint MAC Championship hopes slip away.
Zac Dysert completed 25-of-44 passes for 242 yards to become Miami's all-time
leading passer in the loss, passing Ben Roethlisberger.
After a scoreless first quarter, the teams traded field goals in the second
quarter. Miami's Kaleb Patterson connected from 29 yards out, while UB's
Clarke made a 49-yarder.
Oliver gave Buffalo a 10-3 lead with a five-yard touchdown run at the 9:49
mark of the third quarter, capping an eight-play, 75-yard drive.
Miami answered with a touchdown drive of its own, as Dysert tossed a 10-yard
scoring strike to Harwell to make it a 10-10 game.
However, the Bulls responded just over a minute later, as Licata found Alex
Neutz for a 43-yard TD pass to put UB back on top.
Dysert and Harwell hooked up for another touchdown, this time from one yard,
as the RedHawks knotted the score at 17-17 with 13:55 to play in the fourth
quarter.
But the seesaw battle would continue, as Buffalo regained the lead on Licata's
21-yard TD pass to Fred Lee with 5:36 remaining.
Dysert and the RedHawks answered with a 16-play, 75-yard drive, tying the game
at 24 on Dysert's five-yard scoring strike to Harwell with 23 seconds
remaining. The drive was kept alive by a pair of fourth-down conversions,
including a 22-yard catch by Andy Cruse on 4th-and-20 one play earlier.
But the Bulls had no intentions of going to overtime, as return man Devin
Campbell ran back the ensuing kickoff 47 yards to the Miami 35, setting up
Clarke's game-winner two plays later.
Both teams notched 21 first downs, while Buffalo held a slight 352-340 edge in
total offense and was able to capitalize on having the ball last.
