GAME NOTES: The Marist Red Foxes are trying to salvage a lost season, and will have to start immediately as they host the Monmouth Hawks in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference play at McCann Arena.

Monmouth saw a two-game winning streak come to an end Sunday as the team dropped a 77-71 overtime decision to Rider in MAAC action. Monmouth is now 4-6 in conference play this season.

Marist began the season 0-9, then won five consecutive games to jump back into the swing of things as conference play got underway. Since then though, the Red Foxes have lost five of their last six games, all in conference play. Marist dropped a 78-65 decision in its most recent outing to Canisius on Sunday.

Monmouth has a firm grip on the all-time series lead with the Red Foxes, 35-19. The two programs will meet again in the regular season at Monmouth on Feb. 16. This game is the first meeting between the two sides since the 1997 season.

Monmouth fell way behind Rider in the first half of Sunday's MAAC battle, 37-20, but the Hawks made a furious second-half comeback to tie the score and send it to overtime. The Hawks may have tired themselves out making up the 17- point deficit in the second half, because they fell in overtime. Max DiLeo and Collin Stewart each netted 12 points for the Hawks, while Deon Jones and Andrew Nicholas chipped in 10 apiece.

Jones and Nicholas have proven to be the two best scorers this season for Monmouth, each netting scoring totals in the double digits. Jones leads the team with 15.2 ppg on 44.5 percent shooting from the floor, while Nicholas is just a point behind with a 14.2 ppg average. Jones bests the team in rebounding as well with a 6.8 rpg clip, and has attempted a whopping 141 free throws. Justin Robinson (8.7 ppg) leads the team in assists on the year with 75.

Canisius was able to attain a quick lead against Marist Sunday, jumping out to a 38-24 halftime advantage before coasting to victory. Chavaughn Lewis paced the Red Foxes with 18 points and a team-best four assists, while Khallid Hart scored 17. Adam Kemp chipped in 14, and Jay Bowie added 12 points and 12 rebounds for the double-double. Marist shot 44.8 percent from the floor in the contest.

Lewis has proven himself to be the team's top scorer, helping the Red Foxes out with 17.1 ppg on 40.7 percent shooting. His 41 assists is one behind the team leader's total, and 35 steals is the most on Marist this season. Hart is second in scoring with 13.6 ppg, while Bowie is third with 10.5 ppg. Kemp leads the team with a 7.4 rpg mark.

Marist has some strong pieces this season, but complementary parts seem hard to come by for the Red Foxes. The team has struggled with scoring issues from time to time, and keeping other teams from scoring. Monmouth should be able to put up enough points to glide by Marist Thursday.

Sports Network Predicted Outcome: Monmouth 71, Marist 63
