GAME NOTES: The Furman Paladins seek their first Southern Conference win of
the season, as they host the Davidson Wildcats at Timmons Arena on Thursday
Furman lost its second straight game on Monday, falling to UNC-Greensboro in a
90-82 final. Kendrec Ferrara and Stephen Croone each scored 21 points for the
Paladins, who have dropped three of four and five of their last seven overall.
Larry Wideman and William Gates added 10 points apiece for Furman, which fell
to 0-2 in SoCon play.
Croone averages 20.1 ppg and 5.0 rpg to pace Furman in both categories. He
hits nearly 50 percent of his shots from the field, but the Paladins are
averaging only 68.3 ppg this season.
Davidson ended a five-game losing streak by defeating Wofford, 78-63, in their
SoCon opener last Saturday.
De'Mon Brooks scored a career-high 28 points and grabbed 12 rebounds to pace
the Wildcats, who shot a season-high 61.2 percent from the field. Brooks hit
12 of his 16 shots, and Tom Droney drained 6-of-7 to finish with 18 points for
Davidson, which used a 17-3 run early on to stretch its lead to double
figures, before going into the break up, 37-28. The Wildcats put the game out
of reach in the second half, leading by as many at 21 points on two different
Brooks, who missed six games earlier this season with a left knee injury,
leads Davidson in scoring and rebounding, averaging 15.8 ppg and 6.4 rpg.
Brian Sullivan added 13.3 ppg, while Droney (12.4 ppg) and Tyler Kalinoski
(10.9 ppg) round out the Wildcats' double-digit scorers.
Despite their sharp-shooting against Wofford, the Wildcats connect on just
43.9 percent of their attempts from the field this season while averaging 74.8
ppg. Meanwhile, they allow opponents to shoot nearly 50 percent from the
floor, and yield an average of 80.1 ppg as a result.
Davidson has dominated this series and the Wildcats have the more balanced
roster. Despite playing on the road, expect Davidson to come away with the win
and leave Furman winless in SoCon play.
